Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has come up to assist the Trust with efficient Fire Safety management. This position will support the Trust Estates Officer (Fire).

The Fire Safety Advisor must be a motivated individual with experience in Fire Safety and will be part of the Fire Safety Team in the Directorate of Corporate Services. The role will be stationed at The Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital at Cramlington or North Tyneside General Hospital but will operate across all Trust sites to aid in meeting statutory responsibilities and Fire Safety requirements.

Part-time hours / Job Share options can be considered.

Main Duties of the Job

Offer professional guidance and support to Managers and Staff at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and its Subsidiaries regarding Fire Safety risk management.Provide specialized advice on statutory structural fire safety in existing and new buildings following HTM 5 (Fire Code) regulations.Organize and conduct fire safety training and education for all staff members.Coordinate and carry out fire risk assessments and develop management control plans.Supervise a small team of Fire Safety personnel if necessary.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for fire safety management across an estate comprising eleven hospital sites and various other properties linked to two Primary Care Trusts, covering an area from North Shields to Berwick in the North and Haltwhistle in the West. These Trusts offer a wide range of acute and community services housed in various structures ranging from general hospitals to health centers and clinics. The Fire Safety Advisor role encompasses:

Fire risk assessmentsFire safety trainingFire evacuation trainingLive fire safety trainingFire warden trainingOperational and technical fire adviceAudits and inspectionsMonitoring of training and training materialsCollaboration with the Fire & Rescue Service and other regulatory bodiesEngagement with the Trusts Capital Planning Team on projects to ensure fire regulations complianceDevelopment of fire action plans and evacuation proceduresConducting fire investigationsReporting fire incidents to the Department of HealthCreating an annual report on fire safety managementMaintaining the fire safety risk register and action planWorking with contractors to obtain cost estimates or quotationsCompiling information for business cases and capital investment proposalsProviding advice on structural fire protection and safety for both existing and new buildings as well as proposed building alterationsInspecting buildings post-construction and certifying compliance with pertinent statutory requirements and codes of practiceEvaluating new fire legislation and regulations and, when needed, drafting policies and procedures for review/approval by relevant committeesPerson Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Degree qualification or equivalent experience in fire safety, or completion of a suitable fire safety course at the Fire Safety CollegeMembership in a Professional Institution like IFE, BRE, FPA, IFSMHealth and Safety certification (IOSH/NEBOSH)Specialized knowledge up to postgraduate diploma level through short courses or equivalent experienceAbility to conduct detailed, suitable, and sufficient fire risk assessments within the healthcare sector

AutoCAD training certification and experience with related software
