This role is crucial to the research service, collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team to offer a clinical trials service emphasizing both non-commercial and commercially sponsored studies. We are seeking an individual who is motivated and enthusiastic about clinical research. As the post holder, you will lead and oversee a team of clinical research staff to ensure the delivery of top-notch research and clinical care. You will operate as an independent practitioner, showcasing outstanding leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Main Duties of the Job

As the post holder, you will be in charge of overseeing a team of clinical research staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality research and clinical care. You will act as a self-directed practitioner with excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, contributing to the long-term development of the role.

The post holder will possess specialized knowledge and experience in managing clinical trials, actively guiding and educating others. Moreover, you will be responsible for efficient time management to carry out key responsibilities such as reviewing trial protocols, identifying resource requirements, monitoring performance, and enhancing the reputation of the Research and Innovation Department within and beyond the trust.

You will devise action plans to meet agreed participant recruitment targets, establish training programs for staff, mentor other team members, drive service development, contribute to future research business plans, and autonomously manage a patient caseload. When necessary, you will act as a deputy for the Lead Research Nurse.

The post holder will ensure that research is conducted in compliance with the International Conference on Harmonisation Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP) Guidelines for Research, national regulatory requirements, and trust policies.

We deliver care to the residents of three diverse London boroughs. Our workforce, consisting of 7,800 permanent employees, primarily resides in Barking and Dagenham, Havering, and Redbridge, with a majority from various ethnic backgrounds. Additionally, we offer healthcare services to individuals in south-west Essex, along with specialized neurosciences services across the county.

Our services span all major specialties of large acute hospitals, operating primarily from two main sites: King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. Notably, our A&E departments are among the busiest in London, receiving over 300,000 visits in 2023. Outpatient services are also available at various locations, including Brentwood Community Hospital, Barking Community Hospital, Loxford Polyclinic, and Harold Wood Polyclinic.

We take pride in being at the forefront of reducing wait times for treatment. The Elective Surgical Hub at King George Hospital is a flagship example, with the Care Quality Commission elevating ratings at Queen's and King George hospitals. It was also revealed that the Trust made the most significant improvements in 2023 in reducing emergency care wait times.

Our regional Neurosciences Centre, Radiotherapy Centre, Hyper Acute Stroke Unit, and dedicated breast care service at King George Hospital are areas of particular achievement. Additionally, we are a part of a larger network.
