Job purpose


Working closely with the CEO and Chief of Staff to draw together GEL-wide strategic and operational planning and risk management, as well as running the CEO office.

This is both for strategic and operational purposes, as well as for reporting into the Executive Leadership Team, the GEL Board and external stakeholders.


Job Description:

You will be responsible for:

Leading the running of the CEOs office, working with his executive assistant to ensure the schedule runs to time, agendas are set, briefings are provided on time, and lead the commissioning and creation of materials for the CEO's communications;

Deputising for the Chief of Staff as needed, including advising the CEO on GEL strategy, operations, as well as minuting CEO meetings and following up on actions, including the GEL executive leadership team meetings;

Providing advice and report into the Chief of Staff and ELT drawing on management information, Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), financial information, and broader company data and use this to report into the ELT, working closely with the Head of Performance to drive company focus on agreed priorities;

Driving implementation in priority areas for the organisation, unblocking challenges, escalating risks, and facilitating access to the executive or CEO where required;

Leading the compiling and updating of the company risk register alongside the General Counsel;

Leading the agenda setting and content creation for critical GEL meetings with government
and critical stakeholders, for example the Genomics England Accountability meeting;

Leading company policy creation for the CEO office in distinct areas e.g., international engagement, corporate social responsibility

Supporting priority GEL projects as needed, included the compiling of business cases, policy drafting and reviewing, as well as reporting into the Department of Health and Social Care and Office for Life Sciences, working closely with senior internal stakeholders across the organisation;

Supporting the General Counsel in setting the GEL Board agenda, including commissioning, paper creation, and running of the GEL Board meetings;

Supporting the development of best practice and improved processes amongst the executive support team comprised of the 6 executive assistants who support the Executive Leadership Team;

Leading input and drafting of the GEL Annual Report for the CEO Office, including seeking and reflecting views from the CEO and wider executive team;

Managing and ensure good governance and compliance with all relevant requirements including budgets, workforce plan, and all data and IT requirements;

Leading and co-ordinating GEL input into government and ecosystem policies and documentation, ensuring GEL's views are reflected; and

Knowing and understand the meaning behind our virtues and leadership behaviours and embody them in all aspects of your role.

Qualifications:


No specific professional qualifications required however previous experience of working for or close to an executive team is desirable but not essential.
