The Clinical Safety Officer will be responsible for ensuring that any IT deployments within the Trusts (GWH, SFT and RUH) are carried out in a way that ensures that any clinical risks to patient safety are identified, managed and documented.

The purpose of this role is to act as a Clinical Safety Officer/Manager (CSO) coordinating and carrying out clinical safety activities associated with IT health systems across the organisations.

The CSO will effectively plan over long medium and short term and develop strategic plans and project

The CSO will ensure that safety is maintained throughout the lifecycle of the digital transformation projects including throughout the procurement of a new EPR system. In doing so, the CSO will ensure the Trusts is compliant with the NHS clinical risk management DCB0160 standard - deployment and use of health IT systems.

For the right candidate, the Trust will invest in training to support this role and develop skills relating to Digital Health.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for implementing the clinical risk management processes and procedures across AHA in accordance with the relevant NHS guidelines.

Plan over long medium and short-term and develop strategic plans.

Provide an oversight of clinical safety and ensuring that clinical risk is managed effectively.

Responsible for ensuring that all IT systems procured by AHA meet appropriate clinical safety standards.

Reporting to the Chief Clinical Information Officer and working closely with Digital Clinical Leads and safety team, the Clinical Safety Officer will provide a source of clinical safety expertise and support to colleagues working across the organisation and in the wider health community.

Responsible for promoting, educating and increasing awareness of clinical safety activities across the organisation and wider health community.

Accountable for the definition, documentation and implementation of a clinical risk management process which recognises the risk management activities for healthcare IT to NHS guidelines.

Formally review the organisation's clinical risk management process at planned, regular intervals.

Accountable for establishing a Clinical Risk Management File for the Health IT System at the start of each deployment a Clinical Risk Management File.

Accountable for the maintenance of the Clinical Risk Management File for the life of all Health IT Systems.

Essential

Extensive experience as a clinician or other medical practitioner in mental health Experience of working with clinicians, managers and other stakeholders outside of the immediate working environment. In-depth understanding of the ways in which healthcare professionals use information in support of patient care. Experience of successful partnership working and MDT building Advanced keyboard skills

Desirable

Experience of delivering improvement and ensuring patient safety through changes in clinical systems Experience of change management and service redesign. Experience of involvement in the specification, development, or implementation of information systems

Qulaificvations

Essential

Post Grad diploma or equivalent experience Current registration with an appropriate professional body ( Medical, Nursing, Allied Health Professional or Social Care)

Desirable

Attended clinical safety training for Health IT or hold Master Modules in Patient Safety (Training will be arranged if the successful candidate does not already meet this requirement)
