This role involves analyzing patients' blood groups and antibody status using automated analyzers and manual techniques. The work is crucial for selecting, testing compatibility, and providing blood products to patients. This position also includes crossmatching blood in urgent clinical situations and interpreting results for treatment regimens.
Tasks include assessing maternal-fetal bleeding, maintaining adequate blood stock levels, participating in EQAS schemes, incident investigation, and ensuring safe transfusion practices.
Main Responsibilities
- Organize and train staff within the department, following protocols and standards.
- Supervise daily operations to support efficient service provision.
- Adhere to HPC Standards of Proficiency for Biomedical Scientists.
- Provide attention to detail in a fast-paced environment to maintain quick turnaround times.

Knowledge

- Familiarity with Pathology IT systems.
Qualifications

- IBMS accredited degree.
- HCPC state registration.
- Evidence of continuous professional development (CPD).
- FIBMS, MSc, or equivalent in Blood Transfusion or nearing completion.
