We are seeking a self-motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Tree Officer to join the Arboriculture team in PCC's Street Services department. The team has the responsibility to promote, manage and enhance Plymouth City Council's tree estate in a manner that delivers maximum benefits for people and nature. The post will be part of the Plan for Trees Investment Programme, ensuring that the value and condition of the urban forest is maintained and enhanced for the city.

This role is responsible for inspecting trees, handling data and interfacing with our internal team of Arborists and external contractors to deliver a high standard of arboriculture practices across the city, covering all aspects of tree management. You will ensure that all regulations concerning practices are met, engaging positively and safeguarding the public and stakeholders at all times and supporting the delivery of the Ash-Dieback Action Plan.

Key duties will include:

  • Conducting tree inspections across the city to assess tree health and risk in line with our working practices,
  • Handling data and issuing inspection reports to arborists to be able to carry out tree surgery in an efficient manner,
  • supporting the ongoing development of our digital asset management system,
  • liaising within Street Scene, other Council departments and external stakeholders;
  • delivering a quality service to members and communities, ensuring that the PCC tree estate plays a significant role in responding to the climate emergency and enabling the sustainable growth of the City.

This person will need to be/have:

  • an excellent communicator to be able to confidently liaise with Councillors, residents and contractors
  • able to work independently and a part of a team with the confidence to evaluate situations and make clear decisions in line with relevant legislation and local policy
  • A strong knowledge of trees and have/ be working towards a Professional Tree Inspector qualification
  • Organised and self-motivated
  • Experience of IT systems, databases and administrative processes
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of people/ customers/ contractors and dealing with sometimes challenging situations
  • You will be able to play your part in continuing the development of our team and partnerships.
  • Comfortable working in a hybrid role both indoors and outdoors
