Payroll Team Leader

The Payroll Team Leader will work closely with the Head of Payroll and HR Systems, to establish and deliver an effective, first-class payroll services team and to be accountable for outputs from a customer service and task basis.
You will bring in-depth payroll knowledge including HR systems usage to the team to help support the continuous improvement vision.
The Payroll Team Leader will line manage the payroll team and will at times be required to provide cover for the Head of Payroll and HR Systems.
In addition, you will play a key role in delivering professional service improvements involving staff and customers in the process, ensuring that constant challenge and devise new and improved ways to deliver value for money and improved service and efficiency.
Working closely with service areas, the rest of Workforce & OD department you will ensure efficient and effective delivery of the payroll service.
The essential skills required for this role are:
- Strong people management experience and skills with the ability to motivate and lead others. Supervision and working of a team involved in payroll production for multiple payrolls, ensuring priorities are clearly identified, team deadlines are met, and outputs clarified.
- A proactive approach to work including excellent problemsolving skills. Creative thinker who can provide solutions to meet information and system requirements. Ability to review and document processes and procedures to find a technical solution.
- Ability to deliver a professional, highly efficient and customer focused service to clients, balanced against the need to maintain good financial practice. Excellent communication skills including the ability to convey complex technical information to a range of audiences.
- Experience in ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all inputs for the team, whilst maintaining strict security and financial controls. Able to work methodically and with attention to detail.
- Proven experience of Midland MHR iTrent at an intermediate level or other HR/Payroll system experience.
- Understanding and experience of operating numerous different staff Terms and conditions and schemes.
- Strong knowledge of Pension processing (Teachers Pensions, Local Government Pensions, Nest, etc.)
- Knowledge of report writing software for payroll database interrogation, Microsoft Excel Intermediate level.
- Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with clients and team members.
- Graduate or Member of Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP), or other relevant professional qualification.
This role is deemed customer facing and as such you must have a command of spoken English which is sufficient to enable you to effectively perform the role.
