About the role:

The International Training Programme (ITP) embodies the British Museum's strategic commitment to working across London, the UK and abroad. The ITP seeks to create a global network of museum professionals, through London
- and UK-based annual programmes, complemented by a range of legacy projects. In London the Museum's staff and collection are made available to provide a platform for demonstrating best museum practice, while across the UK partner museums allow participants to experience regional organisations. This forum for museum professionals - from diverse institutions and backgrounds, with a particular emphasis on the Middle East, Asia and Africa - will help shape the future of global museums.


The postholder will assist with the delivery of the British Museum's International Training Programme, providing support to the Manager and Co-Ordinator to ensure delivery of the Annual Programme and legacy projects.

The jobholder will need to be aware of cultural sensitivities and well-organised, to provide requisite levels of support and pastoral care to participants, while providing administrative support throughout the year.


Key areas of responsibility:

  • To assist with the planning and delivery of the International Training Programme. Provide administrative and practical support throughout the programme, assist in compiling a programme report, and complete a personal evaluation and followup paperwork after its conclusion.
  • Providing administrative assistance to the programme to include;
  • Processing invoices and maintaining spreadsheets of ITP spend.
  • Managing the ITP diary, scheduling meetings for ITP team and UK Partners.
  • Coordinating departmental representatives meetings, distributing agendas, taking minutes.
- liaising with colleagues across the BM, the UK Partner network and other collaborating institutions.
- arranging transport, both nationally and internationally.
- liaising with embassies and visa sections.

  • Preparing PowerPoint presentations.
  • Collating and processing information provided by attendees and for distribution to ITP team.
  • Preparing the participants precourse paperwork and monitoring administrative process.
  • Compiling the ITP programmes and inputting into Outlook.
  • Providing practical support and pastoral care to the ITP to include: meeting and greeting participants, visiting colleagues etc; accompanying participants to and from the airport, on Londonbased and other UK visits.
  • Assisting with the organisation of hospitality; receptions and social events (to include some evenings and weekends).

About you:

  • BA or similar in relevant area.
  • Administrative experience.
  • International Museum experience.
  • Good computer skills (Word, Excel, Wordpress, Powerpoint, Outlook).
  • Good filing and record keeping.
  • Team spirit and empathetic manner.
  • Awareness of cultural and political issues in international museum relations.
  • Flexibility, diplomacy and patience.
  • Ability to deal with the unexpected.
