About the role:


The postholder will effectively co-ordinate the Museum's loan projects and reactive loans, whilst maintaining high standards in Museum practice and risk management.

Please note, we have 2 vacancies available for this position.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Respond to loan requests from external borrowers, maintain records on the Loans database and coordinate object loans from the collections of the British Museum to exhibitions in the UK and worldwide.
  • Deliver logístical arrangements connected with loan projects in compliance with licences and legal requirements and assist with other object moves for acquisition or other purposes as required.
  • Finance administration including processing purchase orders, invoices and budget monitoring.
  • Act as a contact point for internal and external queries about procedures for loan projects.
  • Ensure that arrangements for the loan of objects from the Museum are in line with established policy and procedure, and are handled efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders: staff across the BM, particularly within the Department of Collection Care, as well as service providers such as shipping agents, the Arts Council, and with borrowers from around the world.

About you:

  • Knowledge of museum and cultural sector.
  • IT literate with proficiency in Word, Excel.
  • Experience of financial administration.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Articulate, persuasive, flexible communicator, with effective interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work within a variety of different teams.
