Role Profile:


A fantastic opportunity has become available for a Graduate Communications and Research officer to join our dynamic team at Harbour Housing's headquarters in St Austell, Cornwall.

The successful applicant will work in our communications and research team to deliver tasks relevant to promoting the work of the charity and feeding into our sustainability and development plans, reporting to the Communications and Research Team Lead.

The right person for this role will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, IT literacy and be highly organised with an eye for detail.


About Us:

Harbour Housing is a regional charity providing accommodation and support to those experiencing homelessness and other disadvantages across Cornwall.

We provide services and manage projects across Cornwall and our goal is to empower beneficiaries to regain their independence and work towards maintaining their own accommodation through bespoke, person-centred support.


Key Accountabilities:

  • Helping to produce engaging social media content, blog posts and press releases, working with the Team Lead to ensure our key messages are conveyed.
  • Using a range of programmes (including the Adobe Creative Suite, Biteable and Canva) to create graphic, video and audio outputs for social media, policy explanations, stakeholder feedback and training.
  • Write and optimise content for the charity's website, updating Wordpress and assets as required.
  • Producing and coproducing reports for a range of audiences, including our Senior Management Team, Board of Trustees and external funders.
  • Proofreading and sensechecking documents to include reports, policies and other written communication.
  • Attending community events, shows and conferences, representing the charity in a professional and engaging manner as an enthusiastic ambassador.
  • Interacting with our stakeholders, adapting communication styles to confidently engage with various audiences including clients, local businesses and national agencies.
  • Collecting meaningful feedback to inform case studies, feasibility reports and other reporting and developmental work, in support of the strategic plans for the charity.
  • Playing a key role in the implementation of our internal communications strategy, including a monthly staff newsletter using Microsoft Sway.
  • Supporting the charity to prepare for and respond to major events and critical incidents with appropriate communication.

Who are we looking for?


We are looking for a recent graduate with an interest in developing our work as a leading homelessness charity with excellent writing and communication skills.

They must be IT literate with experience using Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint and be able to quickly learn our internal computer systems.

They must possess strong organisational skills and a good eye for detail.

They must be able to work within a small team and perform a wide range of research and communications - related duties with great interpersonal skills.
