About the role:

To be part of the medical team todeliver high quality Palliative andEnd of Life medical care, whilstencouraging and supporting theholistic approach to patients andtheir families within the hospice,taking social, spiritual,psychological, as well as medicalfactors into consideration.

Main duties of the job

What youll do:

Provide care to patients withpalliative care needs and medicalco-morbidities with strong clinicalassessment and with the ability toweigh up risks and benefits ofintervention to achieve best patientcare.Communicate effectively withpatients, families and significantothers as appropriate and inaccordance with professionalpractice.Carry out daily management ofpatients in the inpatient unit,including practical procedures suchas venepuncture and IV infusions.Comprehensively and accuratelyadmit patients on admission to theward.Participate in the multi-disciplinaryteam meetings and ward rounds.Liaise with all appropriate agenciesin assisting in the support of patientsin the community, hospital or caresetting where referral for admissionto the inpatient unit is beingconsidered.

About the role:

Demonstrate responsibility formaintaining accurate comprehensivemedical records upon whichevaluations and audit maysubsequently be based.Work with the Director of ClinicalServices, Clinical Lead, EducationLead, Clinical Governance andQuality Lead and SeniorManagement Team to maintainaccurate and comprehensivedocumentation, audits, educationand continuing professionaldevelopment as required to maintainthe excellent standards of thehospice.Promote and deliver appropriateeducation as requested withinCornwall Hospice Care.Seek appropriate advice andsupport from the external Consultantsin Palliative Medicine in accordancewith the post holders experienceand competence.Commit to team working in a multiprofessional setting.Actively participate in ClinicalGovernance, Audit, QualityAssurance, Risk Assessment andManagement. 9GeneralMaintain the standards ofprofessional accountability asdetermined by the GMC and anyother professional bodies.The post holder is required to befully covered by Medical DefenceInsurance as a condition ofemployment.Ensure the Mission Statement,Core Values and ethos ofCornwall Hospice Care underpinall practice and interaction.The post holder must be able todrive and have their owntransport which is available tothem.Confidentiality and loyalty toCornwall Hospice Care must bepractised at all times.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

Essential Medical qualification. Full registration with GMC with a licence to practise. Some training or experience in at least one of these areas; General Medicine, Elderly Care, Palliative Care, Oncology or General Practice. Experience and commitment to clinical care of individuals at the end of their lives

Desirable

Desirable Experience of clinical work in a Hospice or Specialist Palliative Care unit.
