We are looking for individuals to work within our team, under the direction of the midwife, supporting with the smooth running of the maternity service.


There are different opportunities available to work as:

  • Delivery Suite Support Worker
  • Cesarean Section team Support Worker


The role includes managing the stock levels of the unit, supporting the cleaning and restocking each shift, checking equipment used on the maternity unit and supporting the ward clerks.


This is an exciting opportunity for qualified individuals who are willing to undertake training and have an interest in working in the NHS environment.

Ideally you will have some knowledge of working within a hospital setting.

Main duties include:

  • Direct supervision is not necessary when the maternity care assistant has been deemed competent to carry out particular care activity, but it must be undertaken within the framework of the woman's plan of care.
  • To work closely with others as part of the multidisciplinary team, helping and assisting midwifery and other clinical staff in the routine activities associated with the care of women and babies.
  • Liaise with midwives in order to identify the need for Health Advocates for those women for whom English is not their first language.
  • Perform administrative and clerical duties within the unit and for midwives. These may include; photocopying case notes, filing, liaising with the medical records department and other services within the Trust or Sure Start programmes as appropriate. You may be required to work into the role of the ward clerk in the different receptions of the maternity units on occasion.
  • To assist midwifery staff in dealing with health emergencies as appropriate.
  • To participate in escort and duties and act as chaperone if necessary.
  • Carry out specific duties as directed by the midwives or members of the multidisciplinary team.
