Job Overview

Candidates should have completed the Maternity Support Worker Qualification and have experience in working across all maternity areas.

To assist under supervision in the delivery of fundamental nursing and midwifery care in liaison with the multidisciplinary team.

Main Duties of the Job

Clinical Responsibilities

  • To assist women/birthing people with activities of daily living whilst encouraging independence, as appropriate.
  • To demonstrate, encourage, and assist women/birthing people in undertaking therapeutic activities within parameters of agreed care plans and under guidance of registered practitioners.
  • To monitor and record women/birthing people's clinical observations, escalating appropriately to a registered midwife as required.
  • To assist with women/birthing people's nutritional needs – eating, drinking, menu selection, meal delivery, and special diets according to the individual's needs.
  • To assist in the maintenance of up-to-date, comprehensive, and accurate records in accordance with current legal requirements both written and digital.
  • To assist in the admission and discharge of women/birthing people, including any necessary risk assessments.
  • To escort women/birthing people and families to other departments within the hospital as required.
  • To assist the midwife in the preparation of the birthing environment and provide support to the labouring women/birthing people under the supervision of the midwife.
  • To perform Neonatal observations, meconium, and Group B Strep [GBS] and tests blood glucose monitoring, that are necessary for some new-borns, and recording these in the baby notes or maternity IT system following the completion of Epic Training.
