We would love you to consider joining our multi-disciplinary forensic inpatient team based on Evenlode, at Littlemore Mental Health Centre. The forensic learning disability service is a 10 bedded Medium Secure ward, which supports males with Neurodevelopmental, Mental Health and Forensic needs.

We are very keen to recruit professionals with a commitment to continually improve services and enthusiasm to contribute to the development of the service.

We are a proactive, positive and experienced team of professionals and we pride ourselves on working collaboratively with the men on the ward.

We work within the principals of positive behaviour support and use the 'Good Lives' model of care to inform our practice. We have a strong commitment to link with families and carers to ensure our service is holistic and meaningful to all those involved in our care.

*This post attracts a RSU Lead of £1,446 per annum on top of your annual salary.*

Main duties of the job

We believe in the Good Lives Model of Care which respects the Human Rights of Patients, Families and Staff to improve the quality of life for everyone.

We use a Positive Behavioural Support Framework to understand behaviours of concern, to educate and to communicate needs in a more effective and safe manner.

Our aim is to develop skills to live safely in the community. We prioritise reducing risk via recovery, education, formulation and skill building.

As a nurse, you are encouraged to work as part of the leadership team to meet the needs of our ward and support staff with supervision and development opportunities.

We now also link with the Forensic Community Mental Health Service who have specialist Learning Disability Nurses who support the discharge and aftercare of our patients.

The service provides a range of opportunities for career development both now, and in the future. The Trust provides a sound preceptorship programme to support newly qualified nurses to aid their development and invests strongly in our Leadership Teams to support this journey.

We have an excellent relationship with local universities and post-graduate training providers. In addition to this you will have access to both local and trust training and shadowing opportunities to support your continuing professional development.

Job responsibilities

In this role, some of your key responsibilities will be:

To deputise in the absence of the Ward Manager and maintain aspects of environmental checks and audits. Support in leading in Quality Improvement Projects with the ward. To use a values based approach to use kind words, with a safe space and a listening ear to deliver care which is Safe, Caring and Excellent. Maintain a sound working knowledge of the legislation, policy and guidance necessary to care effectively for people with learning disabilities. Work within the law and take responsibility for fulfilling the practitioners roles and responsibilities under specific legislation, policy and procedures, the Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Safeguarding of adults and children. Demonstrate skill in inclusive and collaborative practice with patients and their families/ friends/carers to encourage and support active involvement in their own care and support plans Demonstrate knowledge and skill in using Positive Behaviour Support across all aspects of care. Respond to the needs of people sensitively with regard for age, culture, race, gender, ethnicity, social class and disability to optimise the helping relationship.

A full trust induction and local induction will be provided. It is mandatory for you to complete Management of Violence and Aggression Training, PEACE Training and other training directly related to the role.

We'll need you to work a rotating shift pattern to include cover of early, late and night shifts for our 24 hour, 7 day a week service. We do not offer a long day or fixed night working pattern in this service.
