The Scottish Episcopal Church seeks to appoint a Safeguarding Support Officer. The role includes a range ofSafeguarding support responsibilities including the processing of applications for criminal disclosure checksunder the Protection of Vulnerable Groups Scheme, training administration and record keeping.   • Good communication, administrative and organisational skills; a logical, systematic and innovative approach to challenges and opportunities.
  • Experience in the use of information and communications technology and commonly used IT applications within an office environment, especially MS Word and Excel.
  • Experience of or awareness of Safeguarding
  • An ability to take initiative and work independently within agreed parameters.

Located in Edinburgh with a staff complement of c.22, the GSO supports the governance and mission of the ScottishEpiscopal Church, providing advice and support to dioceses, charges, clergy and laity across Scotland. It alsofacilitates liaison with other denominations and faiths.

About you: The GSO is looking for an experienced leader and manager with a well-developedunderstanding of governance and compliance, able to manage a broad portfolio of work, who is committed toassisting the Scottish Episcopal Church in its mission and ministry. The COO will be a member of the GSO'sSenior Leadership Team and, along with the Treasurer, will deputise for the Secretary General.

Candidates for this role need not have worked in a church setting before, bringing experience of leadership roles insimilarly complex organisations that demonstrate how they would manage and develop a multi-disciplinary team todeliver results and contribute to a positive and productive culture of cross-organisational collaboration.

Note that this is a full-time role (35 hours per week); however, a four-day work week will be considered with pay andholidays adjusted.

Role Purpose: To coordinate proactive, assertive Crew nightlife harm reduction and early intervention development toencourage, motivate and support people to make positive choices about drugs including alcohol, reducing mentaland physical harms.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Service Delivery

  • Coordinate delivery of assertive nightlife harm reduction services in at least 6nightlife/festival spacesproviding harm reduction information resources, safer sex materials, evidence-based, solution-focussed BriefInterventions and welfare as required.
  • Encourage people at events who take drugs to access Crewservices, or appropriate support services in their local area.
  • Encourage Blood Borne Virus testing andTake-Home Naloxone via the Crew Drop-in or their local service.
  • Responsible for the health, safety andsecurity of the working environment during events, including advance and dynamic risk assessments for Crewstaff, sessional workers and volunteers, ensuring that Crew meets legal and statutory requirements.
  • Leadthe effective advance planning, resourcing and delivery of Crew nightlife harm reduction services, responsive tothe needs of people who take drugs.
  • Network, liaise and work in partnership with event organisers andrelevant stakeholders.
  • Deliver 3 interactive workshop events annually on nightlife harm reduction ondrug awareness and crisis intervention including physical and mental health emergencies, sexual violence,spiking.
  • Work with project Coordinators to plan and deliver regular recruitment, selection, training,induction and line management for Crew volunteers.
  • Lead and coordinate a small team including employees,sessional workers and volunteers.
  • Provide consultancy on welfare and safety improvements withinnightlife spaces through the Safer Nightlife Working Group.

Evaluation

  • Design and deliver surveys capturing anonymous data to identify health behaviours/trends.
  • Collate andanalyse evidence to produce internal and external reports on survey findings, service impact and qualitytimeously (event-specific, quarterly and annual reporting, contribute to annual 'Drug Trends at Crew'report).
  • Evaluate, summarise and share data collected to inform service, training and resourcedevelopment.

DEVELOPMENT TASKS

  • Develop the case for minimum harm reduction standards for event operation and licensing, transferring evidence-based practices from other European partnerships including NewNet.
  • Support the work of the Scottish Drug Checking Project
  • Work closely with CEO and Emerging Trends and Training Coordinator to develop Crew Communications Strategy.
