Homeless Support Worker

BDS Recruitment are currently working in partnership with a well known housing association who are looking for an experienced Homeless Support Officer to work within an all male hostel.


The role is to support in the day to day running of the temporary accommodation schemes, maintaining a good standard of temporary accommodation, provided for the residents.

You will also offer practical support and advice to promote resident independence and development and deal with emergency situations and support residents in life skills training sessions in both formal and informal settings.

You will also work mobile visiting people in the community.

The main responsibilities will be;

  • Collect rent/service charges and support residents to set up bank accounts and direct debits
  • Ensure the comfort and wellbeing of residents and minimize distress by a sympathetic and common sense approach to emergency situations and if required, contact the appropriate agency for assistance, in line with Safeguarding and other relevant procedures.
  • Agree and implement individual support plans and assist in the coordination and monitoring of the provision of support to clients
  • Advise and work with clients in practical issues relative to individual need, e.g. life/social skills
  • Accompany residents where required to appointments and meetings outside the scheme in a supporting role e.g. employment opportunities, social activities, viewing properties, hospital appointments, adult education, etc
  • Listening to and understanding people
  • Setting clear expectations
  • Giving people a chance
  • Drawing the best out of people
  • Recognizing hard work and effort
  • Anticipating people's needs
  • Presenting ideas and information in a way that engages people

The work is conducted on a 6 week rolling rota which does include weekend and evening shifts.

This is a temp ongoing role to start ASAP.

Salary:
£12.66ph PAYE - £15.49ph UMB (£24,363 per annum)
