Higher Level Teaching Assistant (1:1 Support) - Sands School

Full Time, 5 days per week , term-time only)


Sands School is a small independent secondary day school located in the town of Ashburton in the southern edge of the Dartmoor National Park in Devon.

We offer genuinely child-centred teaching in small classes within a democratic ethos that fosters trust, mutual respect and self-directed learning.


  • Have experience of supporting learners with SEMH needs and, ideally, of successfully working with diagnoses of ASC, ADHD
    and anxietybased issues:
  • Be able to develop a rapport with the student and be prepared to negotiate individualised styles of learning and support
  • Be able to take responsibility for planning, organising and resourcing 1to1 support
  • Have excellent communications skills and be able to work collaboratively with the student, their parents and their teachers


As well as the supporting the needs outlined in the student's EHCPs you will have the general responsibilities of an HLTA and will be expected to regularly teach on a one-to-one basis, contribute to reports, work alongside the class teachers and cover lessons where necessary.
