About the role:

We have a great opportunity for an Applications Manager to join our Business Information Systems Team (BIS) in Birmingham. The Business Information Systems (BIS) team offers IT support to all our UK and international offices. It's BIS' job to make sure our people and clients benefit from the most effective technical solutions.

As an applications manager here at Gowling WLG you will be responsible for managing a team of technical system analysts & developers, alongside supporting the firm in providing technical workflow and automation solutions across multiple platforms.

As part of the role, you will:

  • Manage the workload, performance, and development of a team of 9.
  • Collaborate with the wider business teams, helping manage projects from idea to implementation.
  • Work closely with the Head of enterprise applications, leadership team and other team managers to help drive the department's strategy.

About you:

We are looking for someone who demonstrates as an experienced software developer or team leader with technical experience in workflow, database and Microsoft (Power platform) technologies. You will have experience of managing business process/workflow/development teams and projects.

Your essential key skills and experience will be:

  • Demonstrable application and development management experience including software procurement, development, and service delivery.
  • Extensive experience in one or more of the following technologies:
    • Microsoft PowerPlatform
    • Microsoft SharePoint
    • MS SQL Server
    • BPM / low code development environments
    • Microsoft .NET development experience.
  • Solid experience of the Microsoft development stack
  • Experience of Cloud technologies MS Azure, Teams and M365 would be advantageous.
  • Experience in Application development and deployment lifecycles (Devops).
  • Experience of leading and mentoring a technical team
  • Evidence of strong interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills; with ability to present at all levels and communicate technical concepts to non-technical people.
  • Ability to manage multiple and varied tasks and prioritize workload with attention to detail
  • Adaptable and is able to respond and cope with changing and evolving priorities and manage these when they affect planned tasks and the team.
  • Strong stakeholder management, relationship building and influencing skills are essential to work collaboratively across the organisation

Advantageous skills and experience would demonstrate:

  • Experience of working in a regulated sector / professional services
  • Document / content management technologies e.g. SharePoint, iManage
  • Experience in Open AI technologies.
