Residential Support Workers required to work in a small residential home setting for children and young people who are healing from trauma and adverse childhood experiences.

Pay Rates:From £10.50 with level 3 Diploma up to £11.75 with Team Leader experience

£60.00 per sleep completed
  • Staff will be required to complete 68 sleeps per month (essential)

Shift Patterns and Hours:

  • 10/12 hour shifts dependent on sleepin duties
  • 7.30am start until 11pm with no sleep
  • 7.30am start until 11pm + sleep in Shift finishes 8am

The effects of trauma:


The experience of trauma can have long lasting effects on how children and young people relate to others and can lead to behavioural, emotional, and mental health difficulties.


Adverse childhood experiences include but not limited to:

  • Physical/Sexual/Emotional abuse
  • Physical and Emotional neglect
  • Exposure to domestic violence
  • Household substance misuse
  • Household mental health illness

We are recruiting a new team who are child-focused, committed, and who understand the complexities of childhood trauma and how this can truly impact on behaviour.

For this role you need the following:

  • Level 3/4 qualification in children's residential care OR working towards this
  • Minimum twelve months consecutive experience of working in either a children's residential home or residential school setting
  • Driving License with full access to transport
    (essential):
  • Valid DBS which is ideally on the update service
  • Able and willing to sleep in when the rota requires
    (essential)

Day-to-day duties and responsibilities

  • Within your role, you will care and support young people with challenging behaviour, trauma, attachment issues, mental health, ADHD, and autism and various other barriers
  • You will advocate for the rights of our children and young people to influence positive change in their circumstances
  • Maintain the home, ensuring it is clean, safe and all domestic chores are taken care of including cooking, cleaning and shopping and encourage young people to help
  • Help young people to maintain a healthy lifestyle
  • Provide information and support them to access relevant services
  • You will help with their learning and development, help them with such matters as budgeting, education and training, employment and staying safe
  • Attend days out, trips away and fully immerse yourself in leisure activities i.e., bowling, rock climbing, ice skating, dancing, cinema, eatout/takeaways, theme parks, cultural events
  • Update care plans, write reports, staff handovers
  • Arrange and attend all healthcare checks
  • Assist young people to meet their highest academic level
Our children and young people may have severe behavioural problems for a variety of reasons.

Some of the potential influences to be considered are:

  • Effects of previous neglect and trauma on children's brain development
  • Disrupted relationships, including separation from their parents and siblings
  • Negative peer influences

Level 3/4 Diploma in children's residential care highly preferred.
