St Joseph's is located north of the city of Newport within the popular area of Malpas lying just outside the boundary of Monmouthshire.

Two miles north of the M4 motorway, the hospital is easy to access from Cardiff, Bristol, Monmouth, and Abergavenny, just to mention a few.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide a first class and effective service to patients, visitors, consultants, team colleagues and all internal departments.
  • Deal with inbound telephone enquiries and process as necessary, ensuring messages are passed correctly and confidentially.
  • To make Appointments using Hospital Computer System.
  • To provide administrative assistance in the preparation of clinic lists, patient registration forms, file preparation, collection of consultants' and department mail and all other duties as determined by the Team Lead/Line Manager.
  • To always maintain confidentiality of information regarding patients.
  • Participating in training activities as required.
  • To be aware of departmental policies and procedures.
  • To always promote a friendly and professional attitude.
  • Every member of staff is responsible for health and safety in their own department and in the hospital. It is up to each member of staff to ensure that they abide by safe systems of work and minimise all risks.

Maths and English GCSE
Proven ability to work on own initiative
Evidence of ability to work under pressure
Evidence of experience of working and contributing in a team
Proven ability to manage own workload and prioritise when there are competing priorities
Relevant experience of working in an Administration environment
Experience of being in a customer-facing role
Confidentiality
Good clerical skills - Fully computer literate
First class oral and written communication skills
Evidence of good literacy skills and the ability to understand instructions, guidance, policies, and procedures
Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills
Evidence of delivering a high level of customer service
Possess a hard-working nature with an attention to detail and a proactive approach to undertaking your duties

  • Desirable_
Experience in a healthcare environment and working with patients
Proven ability to communicate with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders including patients, staff-members, visitors, suppliers & environmental health
