About the Role:


Colne Valley Primary Care Network has a fantastic opportunity for a GP assistant (GPA) to join our team on a full-time basis for 37.5 hours per week on 5 days.


The GPA position is a support role, covering administrative tasks and, if appropriate, some basic clinical duties, to assist the GPs, enabling them to make the best use of consultation time.

The post-holder will form part of our multi-disciplinary, primary-care team and contribute to the smooth running of the surgery.

The main duties of this role will include:

  • Managing incoming and outgoing clinical correspondence
  • Extracting information from clinical documents that require coding
  • Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and followup appointments
  • Completing basic (nonopinion) forms, and core elements of some forms, for the GP to approve and sign
  • Improving patient flow
  • Supporting patient experience by reiterating information from the GP
  • Assisting with practice tasks
  • Helping the GP liaise with outside agencies e.g. arranging admission
  • Supporting the prescription clerk team.

  • Knowledge of the personalised care approach.
  • Understanding of the wider determinants of health, including social, economic and environmental factors and their influence on communities

The Colne Valley Primary Care Network is a collaboration of six GP practices serving approximately 54,000 patients, from the Kelvedon, Finchingfield, Halstead, Earls Colne, Coggeshall, and Hedingham areas.
