The Birmingham Mother and Baby Unit Outreach Team provides specialist perinatal assessment, liaison and treatment to supplement the urgent care pathway for women experiencing acute mental health problems in pregnancy or postnatally.


We have an exciting opportunity for a 12 month secondment to join our small existing team as a band 7 Clinical Nurse Specialist.

This opportunity would suit a candidate who has a genuine passion for working with families in the perinatal period has significant experience of assessing and managing risk in the perinatal period in both community and inpatient settings and a working knowledge of urgent and emergency care pathways in the Birmingham and Solihull area.

A bespoke induction and training opportunities will be provided in line with the successful candidates prior experience.


The MBU Outreach Team work core hours during the week and provide an on-call service in the evenings and at weekends.

There will be options for the successful candidate to work within this current arrangement or to work on a shift basis, incorporating evening and weekend work into contracted hours, - this can be discussed prior to, at interview or post appointment.

NMC registered RMN
Extensive post registration experience in perinatal mental health
Ability to assess risk in the context of perinatal mental illness considering risks to women, infants, other infants and family
Ability to manage a caseload of patients with complex mental health needs

Experience of working with acute/crisis work / MBU or perinatal community team
