Adult Outreach Counsellor

Hours of Work:
Monday 10am-4.20pm, Tuesday 10am-4.20pm and Wednesday 10.00am-4.20pm (19 hours per week)

Salary:
£13,926.00 per year
, (27,852.00 pro rata) plus up to 3% pension contribution (if applicable)

Purpose of the post:

  • To offer an environment where people feel safe and secure
  • To work in a trauma informed way with people
  • To offer therapy tailored to the individual needs and abilities of each person
  • To be aware of any safeguarding issues at all times and deal with in a timely and professional manner

Responsible to:
Head of Adult Counselling and Wellbeing Services
Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelopment

  • To practice in accordance with the BACP ( British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy ethical framework)
  • To undertake clinical supervision with an external supervisor
  • To attend RSVP's training and meetings as directed
Communication

  • To attend training
  • To attend supervision sessions with your line manager
  • To work as a team with other staff at RSVP and share good practice and support one another
Administration

  • To ensure Health and Safety is followed
  • To ensure adequate records of session are kept in line with RSVP data protection policy
  • To update RSVP's database and diary
General

  • To maintain the confidentiality of people using Rape and Sexual Violence Project services
  • To maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to the organisation
  • To work within Rape and Sexual Violence Project framework for Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discriminatory practice
  • To work within Rape and Sexual Violence Project Policies and Procedures and demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission statement of the Rape and Sexual Violence Project
  • To maintain an awareness of the issues surrounding rape, sexual violence and childhood sexual abuse
  • To ensure the efficient use of resources at all times
  • To undertake any other duties required by the Rape and Sexual Violence Project

Outreach Counsellor

Any offers of appointment will be conditional on staff committing to completing training in those areas deemed essential to the post and a DBS Check and references.

Qualifications and training
Degree or Diploma in Counselling and a minimum of 150 hours of counselling undertaken

Employment History

Previous or current employment / work experience within a specialist rape and sexual abuse organisation, supporting victims/survivors of sexual violence, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and sexual coercion.

(Desirable)

Two years post degree or diploma of experience of working therapeutically with people. (Desirable)

Skills and experience

Extensive specialised knowledge of the immediate and longer-term impacts of sexual violence, sexual abuse, sexual exploitation and sexual coercion, on survivors of child abuse of any gender.

High standards of practice and presentation of work

Able to prioritise own workload and deal with competing demands

Knowledge of child safeguarding issues, legislation and best practice

Understanding of adult safeguarding issues, legislation and best practice

Understanding of the need and ability to maintain professional notes and records of their interactions and interventions with clients

An understanding of the impact of trauma on adults

Personal attributes
Ability to work on own initiative, in partnership and as part of a team

Ability to work in an empathic manner and develop a safe supportive relationship, rapport and alliance with clients

Special requirements:
Eligible to work in the UK

An Enhanced DBS check
