About Blackburn Youth Zone

Blackburn Youth Zone is a 21st century youth hub located at the heart of Blackburn, open to

young people aged 5 to 25 years old, aiming to change the prospects offered to young

people in the area.

Blackburn Youth Zone is built on land where, 100 years ago, Blackburn's first electricity

generating station once stood. On the place where electricity first came to and powered the

town, the Youth Zone is now powering the community through the energy and creativity of

young people.

Overview of Role

trusts funding activity

This will include:

  • Coordination of a small freelance bid writing team
  • Delivery of the grants and trusts components of the charity's fundraising
strategy

  • Reporting of performance and progress to the Head of Fundraising
Duties and Responsibilities - General

  • Work within the performance framework of Blackburn & Darwen Youth Zone
and OnSide

  • Adhere to B&DYZ policies at all times, with particular reference to Health and
Safety and Safeguarding

Duties and Responsibilities - Detailed

  • Secure funds to agreed annual targets within the funding strategy
  • Manage and coordinate the specialist team of freelance team of bid writers
(Coordinating approximately 6-8 bid submissions per month.)

  • Cultivate and maintain effective personal relationships with youth work
managers and on occasion, prospective and existing funders through telephone,

  • Use a variety of online and printed tools to research potential funders
  • Maintain a Prospects list of potential funders with effective horizon scanning
development systems

  • Manage a rolling 3 year pipeline of funding for all core programmes
  • Produce Project Initiation Documents (PIDs) for all successful funding
  • Work closely with the Project Manager to ensure that funders' expectations
and reporting requirements are met

  • Create realistic budgets for bids alongside the Finance team
  • To work closely with the Universal and Youth Hub managers to ensure all bids
meet the service need and 'ask' from young people

  • Acknowledge funding awards in a timely and consistent manner
  • Become fully conversant in the use of the Salesforce CRM system and be
proficient and independent in its use to draw down member data and run reports in

support of bids

  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of effective computer
- based systems for recording funder details and monitoring information.

  • Provide monthly reports to the Head of Fundraising regarding performance
  • Carry out other reasonable duties as requested by the Head of Fundraising

Applicants should be able to demonstrate that they can meet the

Understanding of the Fundraising Regulator's Code of Fundraising

Previous success of engaging and managing professional relationships at all levels including Managers


Proven ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload, taking initiative and often working to conflicting deadlines and with various internal stakeholders.

Fundraising with a background in a charitable organisation

Skills and Abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

Attention to detail and a thorough approach

High standard of ICT skills, including the use of databases

Awareness of effective research tools to source potential grant funders and commissioners
