In this role you will support the development and prioritisation of the schedule of strategically important projects and project management, and to provide high quality support, advice and guidance on project governance arrangements.

The post holder willalso serve as secretary to the project governance committees.

Duties of the Post:

The main duties of the post will include:

  • Supporting the development of the University's Strategic Project Portfolio by:
  • Developing and maintaining the schedule of potential, mandated, approved and completed projects
  • Communicating outcomes and project decisions made by Project Coordination Group to the relevant Project Managers and Sponsors
  • Compiling regular monitoring reports on the progress of approved projects, making recommendations on prioritisation and proposing actions that will ensure the successful delivery of the portfolio
  • Identifying strategically important projects brought forward through the departmental and professional services strategic plans, which are updated and approved annually
  • Supporting the prioritisation of strategically important projects
  • Acting as secretary to the biannual strategic planning meetings for each Professional Services section
  • Managing and maintaining Project Management Framework, ensuring its visibility and supporting members of the community to engage effectively with the processes and templates

This will involve:

  • Proactively identifying opportunities to enhance the Project Management Framework, including the processes, templates and guidance documents
  • Managing and maintaining the project governance webpages and the Projects SharePoint site
  • Providing advice, guidance, training and support to colleagues on the development of project documentation (such as mandates, business cases and progress reports) and the processes for the subsequent monitoring and closure of approved projects.
  • Working with colleagues in the Strategic Project Delivery Team to support the development of institutional capacity and capability for effective project management and continuous improvement by:
  • Identifying opportunities to improve project management practices and the support/ resources available for Project Managers
  • Contributing to the development and delivery of project management guidance documents, tools, templates and training

Qualifications /Training

  • A postgraduate degree or professional qualification (or be studying towards such a qualification)
  • A relevant project management qualification

Experience/Knowledge:

  • Experience in a similar role(s) involving committee governance and crossorganisational projects
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of developing and enhancing project management processes and associated documentation (e.g. mandates, business cases and progress reports)
  • Experience of writing reports for committees and boards, and/or drafting funding proposals
  • Experience in and/or knowledge of project management, in relation to project governance, monitoring and assurance
