Counsellor

You have a L4 Diploma or above in Counselling, are an affiliated member of the BACP/UKCP and have experience of working with women who have been subjected to domestic abuse. All you need is the perfect environment to put your skills to great use. Welcome to Waythrough’s Domestic Abuse counselling Service.
Right now, Waythrough, are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated individual with the ability to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients, to join our team of Counsellors. Your challenge will be to provide high volume, therapeutic interventions (with greater or lesser need) and short term counselling to clients with potential anxiety issues and depression. That means accepting referrals via agreed protocols and formulating treatment to support individual needs. It also means supporting clients towards self-managing their recovery and involving/liaising with other professionals where necessary. Undertaking client assessments including risk, making decisions on the suitability of new referrals, continuously developing your professional knowledge and expertise and keeping coherent records – these are just some aspects of this rewarding role.
As well as relevant qualifications and experience gained within a counselling setting, we’ll be looking for a clear knowledge of anxiety, depression and other mental issues and how they present in clients. You’ll also need to be comfortable being part of a team and fostering good working relationships. The ability to implement therapeutic interventions is important too, as is respect for individual rights of autonomy and confidentiality.
As adept at writing clear reports as you are managing your caseload and time effectively, because you’ll work with people with different cultural backgrounds and ages, using interpreters when necessary, you must be committed to equal opportunities too.
This post is offered as a fixed term contract ending 31 March 25 with opportunity for contract extension.
This is a part-time role requiring the post holder to work 22.5 hours per week.
In return for your skills and enthusiasm, this role comes with some really great benefits and excellent training and development opportunities. Learning and development is important to us, and we are pleased to be able to offer a wide range of apprenticeships. We hire apprentices into specific roles as well as offering apprenticeships to the workforce. Anyone can apply to undertake an apprenticeship relevant to the role as long as they are in a permanent post and have successfully passed probation.
This is a rolling recruitment process. Candidates will be interviewed as and when they are shortlisted.
We are committed to increasing our diversity and we would welcome applications from those with lived experience and/or anyone from a Black, Asian or Minority Ethnic group.
On 1st June 2024, Richmond Fellowship, part of Recovery Focus, a national group of charities highly experienced in providing specialist support services to individuals and families living with the effects of mental ill health, drug and alcohol use, gambling and domestic violence merged with Humankind to form a single organisation that provides the joined-up mental health, housing and drug and alcohol support we’ve all known has been needed for decades. In October 2024, Humankind was renamed Waythrough to reflect the new organisation.
