Job Description

What is the opportunity?

The Manager of Financial Control forms a key part of the senior Financial Control team and is responsible for all areas relating to the integrity of the general ledger for WINIT. The position will be responsible for developing and maintaining the control environment, practices and procedures to ensure effective risk mitigation. This position involves tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including month end review and approval in accordance with IFRS, head office reporting, ensuring key reconciliations are produced and appropriate attestations are completed.

What will you do?

Management of team

  • Participate in the management of the Financial Control function, whilst supervising, coaching and training others in the team

  • Ensure all tasks are delegated, controlled and delivered within agreed deadlines

  • Ensure training and career development plans and in place

Embed a culture of continuous improvement

  • Responsible for the continuous improvements of the financial control process, constant challenging the way things are done to save time and improve the control environment

  • Participate in the integration activities of a newly acquired entity within RBC.

  • Be a key member of the project team in defining the end to end processes in relation to Financial Control activities of a new sub ledger.

  • Ensure adequate documentation of processes and procedures are maintained in Confluence

Month End Activities

  • Review and approval of journals ensuring impact of journal is in accordance with reporting requirements with sufficient evidence and explanation

  • Preparation of analytical reviews of month end results. Ensure that the results are well understood by business finance counterparts

  • Manage intra-group, Transfer Pricing Entries and ensure all balances are settled in a timely manner

Reconciliation of accounts and attestations

  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of the end to end general ledger is maintained at all times - from transactions, to ledger through to reporting lines (RBC and local statutory, regulatory & management)

  • Ensure key control reconciliations, Standards of Documentation 'SOD' packages and Pega attestation are produced, reviewed and sign offs in line with policy

  • Ensure monitoring and resolution of all reconciliation breaks and review points by development and implementation of appropriate action plans within agreed timescales

  • Play a leading role in the year-end audit and ensure financial statements are accurately completed and submitted in a timely manner

The marginal functions of this position have not been included and the responsibilities above are not the only duties to be performed. Will be required to perform any other job-related duties required by the Head of Financial Control.

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have

  • Qualified accountant (or by experience) with relevant experience in a similar role of at least 3 years

  • University degree

  • Self starter and results orientated

  • Experience in problem solving Financial Control issues

  • Passionate about making a difference

Nice-to-have

  • Understanding of regulation within a Banking environment

  • M&A Involvement

  • Past working experience on relevant systems i.e. Peoplesoft, TM1

  • Experience in creating tax returns
