An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic doctor to join the current Obstetrics and Gynaecology team as a clinical fellow at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The service is delivered through four sites: St James University Hospital (SJUH), Leeds General Infirmary (LGI), Wharfdale General Hospital and Seacroft Hospital.

This is a non-training post, however, it allows the post holder, including applicants who already hold CCT, to gain experience that will help to secure future posts.

Almost all the sub-specialities in Obstetrics and Gynaecology are provided for at our centre.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will contribute to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology inpatient and outpatient services as well as being part of the second on call rota with an on all frequency of 1 in 10. The post holder will predominantly work at the SJUH and LGI sites. Duties will involve but will not be limited to working on the labour ward, reviewing obstetric and gynaecology (including early pregnancy) emergencies and looking after antenatal, postnatal and gynaecology inpatients as well as attending antenatal and gynaecology clinics. There will be opportunities to develop special interests in different clinical areas, including:

Endometriosis service

Gynaecology postgraduate training including simulation

Vulval Skin Disease

Maternal Medicine and High-Risk obstetrics

Placenta accreta spectrum service

About us

The Gynaecology service in Leeds is led by a large number of Consultants and Nurse specialists who deliver clinical expertise in Benign Gynaecology Early Pregnancy and Acute Gynaecology Urogynaecology Colposcopy Hysteroscopy and Reproductive Medicine. The CSU provides a full secondary and tertiary service for Leeds and Yorkshire and significant parts of the North of England. A one million development housing the Leeds gynaecology day case unit acute gynaecology and early pregnancy unit (GATU and EPU) opened on ward J twenty four at St James at the end of March. Known as the Leeds Centre for Women's Health this is a very exciting development for the team and is the fulcrum of all the teams plans for modernising pathways increasing productivity and reducing length of stay. The SJUH Maternity Unit deals with approximately four thousand five hundred deliveries per year. The LGI Maternity Unit has around five thousand two hundred deliveries per annum.

Eligibility and Fitness to Practice
Essential

Possess or eligible to apply for GMC Registration Is up to date and fit to practise safely and is aware of own training needs. Applicants must have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English, adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, as assessed by the GMC. Applicants must meet professional health requirements (in line with GMC standards / Good Medical Practice).

Experience
Essential

Have completed their postgraduate training at least to a level of an ST3 specialty doctor or equivalent in obstetrics and gynaecology Familiarity with UK health system and NHS Be able to provide complete details of their employment history Have evidence that their career progression is consistent with their personal circumstances Have evidence that their present level of achievement and performance is commensurate with the totality of their period of training Ability to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement to problems Ability to prioritise clinical need Ability to maximise safety and minimise risk Recognition of, and ability to undertake the initial management of, an acutely ill patient.

Desirable

Shows aptitude for practical skills e.g. manual dexterity Relevant experience in other specialties which would complement a post in Obstetrics and Gynaecology At least 2 years experience working in the UK At least 1 year experience working at middle grade (ST3+) in UK
