We are currently looking to recruit an exceptional individual to lead a team that works closely with internal colleagues and external partners across the North West community to ensure we have everything in place to respond to all types of emergencies.

 

This is an amazing opportunity for anyone who wishes to join the United Utilities team.  You’ll report directly to the Director of Central Operations and be part of our senior leadership community working closely with senior leaders from all parts of the organisation. You’ll have well developed communication and planning skills along with outstanding stakeholder management capabilities.

 

Job Purpose

 

You’ll lead a team of ICC Response Managers who have 24/7 centralised oversight of our operational activity as well as the emergency planning team who are both responsible for the development of emergency planning and response management to ensure operational readiness and response capability.

 

The Integrated Control Centre (ICC) is comprised of a number of key central teams, whose purpose is to enable situational awareness, proactively recognise threats and ensure a prompt and efficient response to incidents and events that have the potential to impact our ability to deliver and maintain services to customers. through the utilisation of our emergency planning, business continuity and incident response processes and systems.

 

Job Accountabilities

 
  • Set the strategy for emergency planning for united utilities working closely with senior leaders from all parts of the organisation                
  • Ensure we have the capabilities (processes, systems, plans and training) in place to respond to all types of emergencies including bursts on our network, weather events that disrupt power supplies and pandemics.                
  • Provide leadership and direction to the ICC Response Manager team (who lead and coordinate the response to all UU incidents and oversee the operation of the ICC) ensuring compliance with the incident management procedure and delivery of internal and external stakeholder expectations                
  • Ensure adherence to company, legal and regulatory procedures during events and incidents                
  • Manage the effective and efficient deployment of the alternative supplies team in both planned and reactive activities with both internal and external resources                
  • Manage the operational interface and relationship with key external service providers and third parties.                
  • Influence the level of Capex / Opex spend within Water Services due to driving a more proactive and planned approach to work undertaken in the field.                
  • Represent UU at national forums relating to emergency planning and incident response.
 

Knowledge and Skills

 
  • A degree level qualification and ideally a post-degree professional qualification (or equivalent experience)                
  • Strong operational management experience, able to deliver service improvements concurrently with cost savings                
  • Strategic thinking skills and able to understand conceptual models and translate this into transformation activities                
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to manage relationships across UU and influence key leaders at senior manager level                
  • Highly developed communication skills able to engage with technology service organisations across the supply chain and to work collaboratively to provide services in an integrated way                
  • Significant Emergency planning and response management skills                
  • Detailed understanding of the regulatory model and overall design of the UK water industry                
  • A good knowledge of customer service, knowing when to escalate and bring to the attention of the customer operation issues that threaten customer service                
  • Knowledge of the wastewater system and in particular wastewater treatment and network processes
