The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Fixed Term Speciality Doctor in Orthogeriatrics.

This Specialty Doctor post aims on providing training and service to the Orthogeriatric group of patients in the Department of Trauma and Orthopaedic with some cover to the speciality of Medicine.

Main duties of the job

Orthopaedic Duties

The successful candidate in this post will be responsible in providing support for medical needs of the Orthopaedic patients on a regular basis. The fellow will be based largely on the Orthopaedic wards providing support to the Orthopaedic juniors and nursing staff. Other Clinical duties will include attending regular Orthogeriatric Consultant and associate specialist ward rounds, which are often informal teaching sessions. Subject to the timetable the doctor will be available for advice and help with medical assessment of the admitted elective Orthopaedic patients.

There is no formal accident and emergency commitment other than to assess and manage patients with orthopaedic problems in the wards.

The job role includes no on calls in Orthopaedics.

General medicine

The successful candidate may participate in the Registrar on call rota for medicine and help with assessment and management of acutely unwell patients.

There are weekly meetings in medicine, hot cases of the week discussions and Grand rounds.

The department offers very good opportunity to conduct audit and research relevant to the speciality and present the findings in theregional and national conferences.

The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is an active partner in the Joint Venture Medical School at the University of East Anglia, Norwich.
