Job Title: Consultant General Anaesthetist/Orthopaedic Hub Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Consultant General Anaesthetist to join our team at James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing a flexible anaesthetic service to a variety of surgical specialties, including general surgery, orthopaedic, trauma, gynaecology, urology, ENT, and emergency surgery.

Main Duties:

  • Share with consultant colleagues the general anaesthetic workload, including participation in general anaesthetic on-call and maternity cover on-call.
  • Provide a flexible anaesthetic service to a variety of surgical specialties.
  • Participate in the Royal College of Anaesthetists Continuing Professional Development programme.
  • Be expected to actively participate in clinical governance within the department and the trust.
  • Be expected to fulfil criteria for clinical supervision and encouraged for educational supervision to participate in training and teaching of postgraduate and undergraduate trainees.
  • Participate in departmental quality improvement programmes under the direction of the clinical lead.

Person Specification:

  • FRCA or equivalent.
  • MBBS or basic medical degree.
  • On the UK GMC Specialist Register or being within 6 months of completion of UK anaesthetic training or being on or eligible for the UK GMC Specialist Register at the date of interview.
  • Full GMC registration.

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate degree in education.
  • Experience as a consultant in the UK.
  • Interest in ultrasound-guided vascular access and nerve blocks.
