Pontypridd, United Kingdom University of South Wales Full time

Post until 18th July 2024

Job description:

The Faculty of Life Sciences and Education is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Occupational Therapy to join an existing team of academics teaching across a range of health and social care courses in a large Faculty. The post is advertised as part of exciting new developments that involve expansion of the commissioned Health portfolio. The successful candidate will work with a dynamic group of academics who are developing innovative courses aligned to USW’s challenge-based learning curriculum. Utilizing a course structure that will have commonalities across all pre-registration health education courses, multi-disciplinary team working and interprofessional education will lie at the heart of the curriculum.

The successful applicant will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of our new part-time Occupational Therapy degree course that will lead to graduating students’ being eligible for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists. They will support the planning, delivery and evaluation of this new course, in addition to helping embed inter-professional education into the curriculum. Additionally, as a team member they will contribute to the co-production of exciting physical and virtual practice simulation activities. This will include the opportunity to develop creative learning opportunities in the University’s multidisciplinary ‘Digital Health Village’. They will also work closely with practice colleagues and professional support staff to guide the administration and operational delivery of the course, for example in relation to admissions and practice placement procedures.

The successful candidate will have post-registration Occupational Therapy practice experience. Preferably they will have experience of supporting people’s mental health and wellness through occupational engagement. In addition, they will have experience of facilitating the learning and assessment of students and colleagues. They must have active registration with the HCPC, professional membership of the Royal College of Occupational Therapists, and if not already registered, will be prepared to work towards becoming a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA).

The post requires flexibility of approach. It is based at the Glyntaff campus and will involve both remote and face to face physical work with healthcare providers across South Wales, thus involving some travel.
