Job Purpose:

To carry out Social Work tasks (particularly complex cases) in the Parent & Baby Programme. Providing a flexible timely response service across the childcare teams to expectant parents in a manner which would promote and safeguard the development of the child/young person by:

Support families that would otherwise result in a new born baby being removed from the care of his or her parent(s) at birth.

Meeting the needs of families that would otherwise result in the young person being subject to child protection planning. 

Meeting the needs of families that would otherwise result in the young person being accommodated.

To lead the pilot programme and provide supervision and support to Team Members.

Principal Responsibilities:

To undertake specialist skilled work, utilising a strengths based approach to come alongside families supporting expectant mothers to prevent new born children being removed from parent(s) at birth. 

To take a lead on service delivery providing advice and guidance to team members as required.

To supervise designated Team Members and assist with their general professional development (see note 2).

To assist with and, where appropriate, initiate specific service developments (Including Group Work, Self Help and Support Groups).

Person Specification

An experienced Child Care Social Worker with substantial Local Authority or Voluntary Sector experience and substantial post qualification experience. 

Social Work Qualification (CQSW/DipSW/CSS)

Registered with the Care Council for Wales

Detailed knowledge of Child Care Legislation specifically in relation to Child Protection and Looked After Children and other Children in Need.  

Be a qualified practice assessor or prepared to undertake training.  

Thorough working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of software.

Evidence of innovative ability and willingness to take these skills further, coupled with a proven ability to manage complex cases and experience of assessment work. Previous experience of Joint Investigation work would be useful.

Proven ability to motivate staff. Experience of supervision would be useful.  

Valid driving licence.
