Role Overview: As a cardiac scrub nurse at MPS Healthcare, you'll play a crucial role in delivering exceptional patient care and support within the cardiac surgical setting. Collaborating closely with NHS Wales Health Boards and other healthcare facilities across Wales, you'll utilise your expertise and professionalism to ensure the safety and well-being of cardiac surgery patients.
Key Responsibilities:
- Providing comprehensive nursing care during cardiac surgical procedures, including open-heart surgeries, angioplasties, and implantation of cardiac devices.
- Assisting with pre-operative preparations specific to cardiac surgery and ensuring proper intraoperative positioning of patients.
- Maintaining sterile conditions in the operating room, particularly crucial in cardiac surgeries to prevent infections and complications.
- Collaborating closely with the cardiac surgical team, including cardiac surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and perfusionists, to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Monitoring patients' vital signs and responding promptly to any changes or complications during surgery.
- Documenting patient care accurately and thoroughly, including intraoperative findings and surgical counts of instruments and supplies.
- Adhering to strict medical protocols and ethical standards, particularly in the specialized field of cardiac surgery.
- Valid and active NMC Registration.
- Minimum 12 months of proven experience as a cardiac scrub nurse, preferably in a cardiac surgery unit or operating room.
- In-depth knowledge of cardiac surgical procedures, equipment, and protocols.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, crucial for effective collaboration within the surgical team.
- Compassionate and dedicated to delivering high-quality patient care, especially in the high-stakes environment of cardiac surgery.
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and make quick, informed decisions during critical situations.
- Attention to detail and commitment to upholding the highest standards of patient safety and surgical quality.
