Job Overview:

We are currently seeking an experienced Housing Revenue Officer to manage rent arrears and contribute to delivering an efficient rent collection service. The selected candidate will work in a hybrid role, with the flexibility and convenience of working from both home and our Redditch office. The successful candidate will oversee a caseload of rent accounts, acting with sensitivity, empathy, and professionalism, to support customers who have fallen into arrears.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Manage a caseload of rent accounts, keeping records meticulously updated and ensuring prompt and effective action is taken to manage any arrears.

2. Communicate effectively with tenants, providing clear, simple information about rents, arrears, benefits, and welfare support available.

3. Identify tenants' support needs and offer basic benefits and welfare advice, using this information to help tenants manage their rent account and reduce their arrears.

4. Refer tenants to relevant agencies where specific or more complex advice and guidance is needed.

5. Initiate and take appropriate legal action in accordance with company policies and procedures to recover any outstanding debts. This may include representation at court proceedings and managing evictions, always aiming for the best outcome for all parties involved.

Qualifications and Experience:

Candidates must have prior experience as an Officer managing rent arrears, with a good understanding of court proceedings relating to debt recovery and evictions. Knowledge about housing benefits and welfare reforms will be advantageous. Strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills are a must. Experience in using technology and software systems for record management is required.

Additional Information:

This is a contract position for a duration of 3 months with the potential for extension. The role includes a combination of remote and on-site work, with 37 hours expected weekly. Some flexibility may be required to meet business and client needs.
