The Standard is a media owner that provides Culture & News for Londoners everywhere.
Through our story-first digital centric publishing we deliver content across Digital, Audio, Video, Social platforms and are launching a new weekly print product. The Standard is hiring an experienced digital content editor to join its brilliant sports team.
The right candidate will be an experienced multi-skilled sports journalist, committed to working to the highest standards. Have an in-depth understanding of SEO and social media strategy.
• Will demonstrate experience and understanding of how to manage breaking news.
• Have deep knowledge of London’s football clubs and across the whole sporting spectrum.
• The purpose of the role is to create and maximise the impact of all our sports stories across the different platforms, optimising traffic and engagement.
The successful candidate will be expected to take a flexible approach to working patterns and to regularly work evenings and weekends across the sporting agenda. There will be a mix of home and office work, to optimise the department’s productivity whilst maintaining a fully collaborative approach.
Develop the Evening Standard’s digital sports content.
• Edit sport content on all platforms.
• Maximise audience engagement, developing SEO and social media strategies.
• Commission stories, analysis and comment from the reporting team.
• Write your own stories, manage breaking news.
• Run live blogs and match content.
• Commission multimedia sports coverage, including video and audio.
Continuous improvement – works in a smart, flexible, and focussed way, is curious, open to change and suggests ideas for improvements to the way things are done.
• Building capability – keeps own knowledge and skill set current and evolving and looks for ways to continue learning to support the achievement of business objectives.
