Job Description: Fairness and Equality Officer

The Fairness and Equality Officer will work across the team providing support for policy, equality, and participation and engagement functions. The Officer will manage projects and programmes that deliver on our strategic priorities. The postholder will provide project management support to the Council’s Challenging Inequality Programme including ensuring strong governance that helps deliver the programme aims.

The postholder will use their robust understanding of public policy and equalities to facilitate strategic thinking across the Council, identifying emerging policy developments and supporting colleagues to remain alert to long-term risks and opportunities. The Fairness and Equality Officer will provide expert advice to the organisation on equalities and in particular in relation to Equality Impact Assessments.

The postholder will also be expected to provide advice to council services around consultation and engagement. This will include ensuring all major council projects and decision are made in consultation with the community and where possible using a co-production approach. The Council aims to put the community at the heart of all activity creating opportunities to ‘work with’ rather than ‘do to’. The postholder will contribute to this through promoting participation across council activity.
