Group Head of International Casualty
To provide leadership, management, and be responsible for overall results of the International Casualty business and team within GSI4, which includes Munich Re Syndicate Limited (“MRSL”) and any other offices as appropriate. Ensure prudent underwriting of quality business in line with business plan to facilitate maximum return of profit while maintaining the company’s reputation and integrity, demonstrating care for customers and respect for the regulatory obligations of the company.
The Role
- Manage, maintain and develop the International Casualty teams to ensure profitable, accurate and efficient underwriting that supports the business plan. Ensure International Development Companies (IDCs) have the support and knowledge shared with them to underwrite business which this position oversees.
- Steer applicable business through analytics and consultation with manager and delegation of strategy to team members and IDCs.
- Provide support to Chief Underwriting Officer on broad strategic initiatives and management issues.
- Serve on MRSL Group Committees and Sub Committees as required.
- Underwrite and manage new (and renewal) business in accordance with Underwriting business plan with full awareness of own underwriting limits as set out on the Underwriting Authority. This shall involve exercising judgement in all underwriting matters including the oversight of the administration of binders, along with the monitoring of risk entries and aggregations.
- Service existing contracts and make amendments in line with the syndicate’s underwriting philosophy.
- Conduct and develop effective relationships with both Lloyd’s Brokers, key clients and market peers, to both strengthen existing trading relationships and secure new business that falls within the Underwriting business plan and keep abreast of market developments.
- Review slips and endorsements along with other placing information and literature, exercising own judgment to ensure the International Casualty accounts remain within the Underwriting business plan and adheres to authority limits.
- Ensure that Peer Review Group see appropriate information and respond efficiently to PRG queries relating to business for which you are responsible.
- Produce ad-hoc management reports as and when required.
- Liaise with Head of Underwriting Management to ensure that company procedures and systems are followed and maintained as per procedures and compliance manuals.
- Conduct peer review ensuring compliance with the business plan and adherence to authority limits.
- Help drive forward good Conduct for the business to deliver the best outcomes for customers / policyholders.
- Understand all appropriate lines of escalation and the responsibilities of the Product Conduct Risk Strategy Group (PCRSG), Underwriting & Claims Sub Committee (UCSC), ExCo and Board for Conduct Risk.
- Be aware of and take ownership of the potential risks facing the business within own job role and the controls that are in place to mitigate them; and report all significant changes in these risks, or the effectiveness of controls, to your line manager in a timely manner.

- University Degree and/or relevant professional qualification/Experience
