About the role
Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Quality & Environmental Manager will be responsible for all quality and environmental related functions on the Portadown Site. They will have a strong functional background in quality management, engineering and environmental. They will lead a team of quality inspectors to ensure 100% RFT quality. Creating and developing a zero-defect quality strategy and setting a benchmark of world class quality. The successful candidate will work closely with operations, customer service team, commercial and directly with our customers. They will ensure the highest levels of quality in the manufacturing process, leading to zero defects leave and look at ways to reduce costs through eliminating re-work and scrap. They will lead the development and implementation of environmental policies and practices ensuring the site conforms to all relevant environmental legislation and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the site conforms to all relevant quality and environmental legislation and standards.
- Lead and develop a team of quality inspectors on site to ensure they meet the highest standards possible.
- Create a world class strategy for the site. Set KPI’s, track monitor and improve.
- Conduct weekly meetings with Shift Managers highlighting quality and warranty trends, identifying root causes and implementing correct actions.
- Support all quality functions to continually drive out errors, scrap and customers issues and improve performance.
- Roll out new processes such as SPC and Process capability with the quality team to improve performance.
- Monitor and advise on the performance of the quality and environmental management system, produce data and reports on the performance, measuring against set indicators.
- Review existing procedures, working instructions and ensure that they are communicated and utilized to meet internal and external requirements.
- Develop and implement a robust system for recording all quality data on site and ensure correct tolerances are set.
- Conduct lean training (5S) to ensure the workplace works efficiently, effectively, and safely.
- Drive lean manufacturing methods on site to ensure maximum site optimization.
- Work closely with our customers to meet and exceed all their expectations and use data to drive improved performance.
- Manage all warranty issues.
- Responsibility for quality of incoming material.
- Create and develop a culture of detailed root cause problem solving.
- Log environmental incidents and support management to ensure personal and environmental incidents are investigated thoroughly to establish and implement actions to prevent recurrence.
- Lead the development and implementation of environmental policies and practices.
- Maintain and update the ISO14001 EMS & site Environmental Permit
- Conduct regular environmental audits and inspections.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental legislation and industry regulations.
- Manage waste reduction programs and initiatives.
- Prepare and present environmental reports to senior management.
- Oversee the company's carbon footprint and energy usage.
- Measure, monitor and report on environmental performance.
Although the role is based in Portadown, the successful candidate would be expected to travel to other sites, customers, suppliers, and contractors as required.
Essential Criteria
- Quality qualification (Level 4/ Level 5)
- Nebosh Environmental management
- Lean manufacturing Experience / 6 Sigma / Green belt
- Fully experienced / conversant in ISO 9001:2015 and ISO14001
- Practical experience of quality management in an industrial setting
- Proficient in MS Office – particularly Excel
- High Level of interpersonal skills
- Multiple years of experience in a quality related discipline
- People leadership experience
- Proven experience of managing budgets
- To be able to communicate clearly and effectively and present at a high level
- Practical problem-solving skills, including the ability to manage conflicting work demands and work under pressure in a dynamic and challenging environment
- Proven track record of managing cross functional and challenging teams

Desirable Criteria
- NI Level 5 Diploma in Leading Quality Improvement
- Practitioner member of IEMA or working towards Environmental qualification
- Background / Knowledge in Automotive Standards
- IOSH, NEBOSH or relevant H&S qualification would be desirable
- Knowledge / Experience in Polymers / Plastics industry
- Proficient in Process capability and SPC
