Edinburgh, United Kingdom NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde Full time

NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.

Applications are invited for the post of Consultant in Paediatric Inherited Metabolic Medicine based at the Royal Hospital for Children, Glasgow.

This provides an exciting opportunity for an experienced specialist metabolic Paediatrician to contribute to the development of an exciting new national service for children with Inherited Metabolic Disorders (IMD) across Scotland. The Scottish IMD service is a nationally commissioned service for people of all ages with IMDs. The successful candidate will provide outpatient care and advice for children with IMD and their families across Scotland.

The postholder will work as part of a team based in both the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow and the Royal Hospital for Children and Young People in Edinburgh. They will be expected to work across both sites, depending on the needs of the service. Both hospitals are major centres for Paediatric care in Scotland, and are closely associated with the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Both hospitals provide a wide range of general, community and specialist services for children including critical care. Both hospitals are co-located with the major teaching hospitals for adults in Scotland, at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. Both have onsite maternity and neonatal units. Both have extensive modern laboratory services including Metabolic Biochemistry and Clinical and Molecular Genetics. In addition, the Scottish Inherited Metabolic Disorders Service provides direct care for children and adults throughout Scotland through outreach clinics supplemented with virtual consultations and telephone advice to families and to health, education and social care professionals.

Applicants must possess full GMC registration and a licence to practise. Those trained within the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT in General Paediatrics or eligibility for specialist registration (CESR) or be within six months of confirmed entry from the date of interview, and should possess a postgraduate qualification (MRCPCH or equivalent). Non-UK applicants must demonstrate equivalent qualifications and training. All applicants must demonstrate at least one year of training and experience in Paediatric Inherited Metabolic Medicine. Any candidate who does not have UK GRID training or equivalent in Paediatric Inherited Metabolic Medicine will be provided with post-CCT training and experience within the service. Any candidate in this position is encouraged to contact the team for further information.

Interview Date: 29/08/2024
