London, United Kingdom Barts Health NHS Trust Full time

Job overview

Are you an experienced clinical leader with a passion for infection prevention and control? Barts Health is looking for a dynamic and strategic individual to lead our Infection Prevention and Control efforts across all Trust sites. As the Clinical Director of Infection Prevention and Control (CDIPC), you will have a pivotal role in shaping the Trust's IPC strategy, ensuring compliance with national standards, and driving improvements in patient safety.

You will be a registered healthcare professional with extensive senior experience in IPC and a proven track record of leadership in a large, complex healthcare setting. You will have strong analytical skills and the ability to translate infection data into actionable insights that improve patient outcomes. Your strategic leadership will be crucial in aligning IPC efforts with the Trust’s wider clinical and operational goals.

You will also be a skilled communicator, capable of engaging with stakeholders at all levels, from frontline staff to national policymakers. Your experience in managing change, particularly in infection control, will be vital in driving the Trust’s transformation agenda in this critical area.

If you are ready to take on a leadership role that makes a direct impact on patient safety and infection prevention, we invite you to apply for this exciting opportunity. Join us in leading Barts Health to the highest standards of IPC and clinical excellence.

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Director of Infection Prevention and Control will provide strategic oversight of IPC, antimicrobial stewardship, and related environmental factors across Barts Health. You will lead a senior team in managing infection prevention efforts, developing policies, and ensuring compliance with the Health and Social Care Act, Care Quality Commission (CQC) standards, and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) requirements.

You will work closely with the Trust Executive Team at both Group and Hospital level reporting on key infection data and advising on risk mitigation strategies. You will also lead the Trust’s efforts to reduce healthcare-associated infections and ensure a safe environment for both patients and staff.

Working for our organisation

Barts Health is one of the largest NHS trusts in the country, and one of Britain’s leading healthcare providers.

The Barts Health group of NHS hospitals is entering an exciting new era on our improvement journey to becoming an outstanding organisation with a world-class clinical reputation. Having lifted ourselves out of special measures, we now have the impetus and breathing space to chart a fresh course in which we are continually striving to improve all our services for patients.

Our vision is to be a high-performing group of NHS hospitals, renowned for excellence and innovation, and providing safe and compassionate care to our patients in east London and beyond. That means being a provider of excellent patient safety, known for delivering consistently high standards of harm-free care and always caring for patients in the right place at the right time. It also means being an outstanding place to work, in which our WeCare values and behaviours are visible to all and guide us in how we work together.

We strive to live by our WeCare values and are committed to promoting inclusion, where every staff member has a sense of belonging. We value our differences and fully advocate, cultivate and support an inclusive working environment.

We particularly welcome applications from Black, Asian and minority ethnic candidates as they are underrepresented within Barts Health at this band.
