Head of Clinical Governance

Job purpose The Head of Clinical Governance will be part of a small governance team and provide support to the Associate Director of Governance. This role will contribute to robust governance arrangements within the organisation to ensure our services are safe and meet legal requirements, e.g. CQC standards, corporate governance, NICE and any other contractual requirements. The postholder will enhance the quality of services through evidence-based practice.
The postholder will be expected to work as part of a flexible and cohesive team and take leadership in working with the service leads on compliance with corporate and clinical standards to include Infection Control, Clinical Effectiveness, Health and safety and Governance. To coordinate activity relating to risk management across the organisation. Key Responsibilities Governance, Quality & Assurance Lead on GPCGs quality and clinical and corporate governance arrangements safety and risk management practices across the organisation. Monitor and coordinate the investigation of adverse events occurring within the organisation Promote an open and fair culture to ensure that incident reporting is encouraged, and lessons are learnt, focusing on corrective action and closing the loop.
Oversee clinical audit, promoting evidence based best practice Assist in the dissemination of patient safety related information throughout the organisation Work with the Service Leads to ensure GPCG operates robust arrangements to monitor the implementation of national standards for example, NHSLA standards and NICE guidance. To contribute to, and continue to develop, regular reporting for quality, governance and safety agendas for sub-committees and THGPCG Board. Responsible for supporting, maintaining and improving the robust clinical governance structures, corporate governance and processes, including at both Executive and Directorate levels. Develop and drive excellence, embedding outstanding clinical governance practice across the whole organisation which reflects the strategic intent and direction of the organisation and is in line with the organisations Quality Strategy and good practice recognised by NHS England and NHS Improvement (NHSE&I) and the relevant Integrated Care System (ICS).
To set high expectations across the organisation, striving to ensure that the Care Group is a place where all can expect a high quality and safe experience. Manage the team in Complaints, Incidents, Serious Incidents and Quality and Safety. Support external relationships with the Associate Director of Governance, including CQC, CCG and collaborations with other organisations. Work with relevant department/services and external insurance companies tomanage litigations across both clinical and corporate areas.
Work with corporate support manager to oversee Health and Safety compliance. Oversee the dissemination of patient safety related information throughout the organisation. Provide a strong proactive link between the service leads and the organisation's Executive Directors. Ensure the timely and effective completion of investigations and the sharing of wider learning across the organisation.
Support leads to align policies and ensure compliance against organisational standards. Supporting the flow of quality and safety measures and indicators from services up to the board. Support QSG meetings ensuring escalation of pertinent information. Citing the board and directors on risks across the organisation.
Education & Training To work with Service Leads to ensure compliance with Statutory & Mandatory training requirements. Proactively support service leads in identifying governance training needs across the organisation. Review any training which may fall under the umbrella of quality and safety and corporate governance. Patient Safety Responsible for the timely completion of incident/complaint investigations so that internal deadlines and external reporting requirements are consistently met.
Support the roll out and embedding of the Patient Safety incident Framework, across the organisation. Support the Associate Director of Governance to deliver on the patient safety strategy. Be a Freedom to Speak up Champion, raising awareness about the importance of speaking up, listening up, supporting staff to raise concerns at the earliest opportunity. Responsible for ensuring timely notification of incidents to the organisations quality and governance team so that they can be reported to statutory bodies within statutory timescales.
Monitor and report on the GPCGs compliance with the Duty of Candour. Infection Prevention and Control Provide leadership for Infection Prevention & Control within the services, ensuring that GPCG is fully compliant with the Code of Practice for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Acquired Infections (Health Act 2006).
