This is a Band 8a, AAOT Senior Clinician 0.4 WTE post.

AAOT is a specialist multidisciplinary team working with 12–18-year-olds, who have high-risk, acute, chronic, and complex difficulties. We provide a rapid assessment, treatment, and sign-posting service for young people in crisis and for the most urgent referrals into the service. We engage with and provide active discharge planning to all young people experiencing a Tier 4 admission, aiming to offer a seamless and highly supportive discharge package. We also provide long-term, high intensity support for young people who have complex, severe and enduring mental health problems, using a flexible, community and home-based approach. We work closely with a wide range of other professionals and agencies to provide joined-up interventions to this high risk, vulnerable client group and their families.

The post holder will work alongside the Adolescent Assessment Outreach Team Managers, sharing the clinical leadership, and supervision responsibilities

The post holder will hold a small caseload, working as senior care co-ordinator in assessing, planning and providing care and treatment to individual cases and their families. The post holder will be an active member of the AAOT MDT, supporting the whole team approach in the management of our high-risk and complex caseload.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist generic and discipline specific treatments of referred clients. To formulate and devise treatment plans for referred clients and to provide interventions using a range of generic and discipline specific models appropriate to the service area. To provide specialist mental health advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals/ agencies to assist in the formulation, diagnosis and treatment of clients. To hold and manage a caseload of clients. To work autonomously and independently in undertaking assessments and treatments, with the support and guidance of the MDT.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Extensive experience of working within teams that provide a service to young people who present with acute, severe, and chronic mental health problems. Ability to demonstrate excellent skills in the assessment and management of mental health risk. Ability to undertake confidently and competently, generic and emergency mental health assessments. Skilled multi-agency working with complex professional networks. Experience delivering supervision to qualified staff members and mentoring new staff members as required.

Essential criteria

Degree/Diploma/Doctorate in Mental Health or Sick Children’s Nursing, Psychology, Social Work or other Allied Health Profession Registration with the appropriate professional body.

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Exhaustive post qualifying experience working within a specialist mental health setting. Significant post qualifying experience of working in a CAMHS setting and experience of working with adolescents. Substantial experience of working as a care co-ordinator, holding a caseload of patients and working autonomously. Substantial experience of supervising junior staff and supporting them in developing their practice and skills

Knowledge

Essential criteria

Evidence of well-developed clinical skills and knowledge in CAMHS Confident in formulating and devising treatment plans for a range of mental health presentations.
