Clinical Specialist/ Mental Health Practitioner

Job summary
1. This is an exciting opportunity to attend the Chronic Pain clinic and contribute towards the multidisciplinary assessment and treatment of patients, which will involve the identification of psychological problems associated with chronic pain such as; PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, drug and alcohol problems and psychological difficulties associated with trauma. They will support multidisciplinary colleagues to consider and understand how pre-existing mental health needs may be impacted by chronic pain, by sharing psychological formulations, knowledge and expertise.
2. Be accountable and responsible for the assessment of care needs and outcomes for patients presenting to the Chronic Pain clinic including how psychological distress may impact on patients' engagement with the chronic pain service. Patients may present with a wide variety of pre-existing clinical conditions in addition to chronic pain. These assessments will be conducted as an individual and as part of the multi-professional team.
Main duties of the job

In addition to the clinical skills of their registered profession, they will have theoretical knowledge of psychological ways of working, deploying a wide range of theoretical approaches and utilise a wide variety of clinical skills appropriate to the needs of individual patients and the clinical setting in which they are required to be Be accountable and take direct responsibility for carrying out specialist assessments including risk assessments unsupervised. Develop, implement, evaluate and document specialist care. To be able to assess and develop plans of care to meet the complex needs of patients with a variety of Work closely with the chronic pain team and maintain good working practices with the wider CHPS Make autonomous decisions using clinical judgement to identify suitable courses of action to provide and manage high quality care. For this to include the referring of patients to appropriate community mental health and third sector services based on an analysis of complex presenting problems, and judgement about available options within agreed protocols.
About us
Starting with NELFT NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff). High Cost Area Supplement - London
This post attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,551 and a maximum payment of £5,735 per annum pro rata).

5 Provide a consultation-liaison service to clinicians in the Chronic Pain team and relevant community teams who are working with our patient group. This will include giving specialist advice on a range of care, treatment and patient management Identify and be responsive to the diverse cultural social and spiritual needs of all.
10. Demonstrate a high standard of record keeping and documentation with adherence to NELFT policies and an understanding of professional guidelines and application of confidentiality.
11. Work with colleagues to develop and promote the services philosophy/framework of care delivery and strategic objectives, taking responsibility for specific areas of policy and delivery.
12. Work with colleagues to develop clinical expertise and high standards of clinical and professional practice, as defined by the relevant professional bodys code of conduct and deliver care that is evidence-based, reflecting current best practice and research.
13. Participate in structured clinical supervision/appraisals in accordance with the Trusts policies and procedures. Be responsible for the formal supervision and appraisal of junior staff. You will also be responsible for the informal supervision of non-mental health nurses and others, including doctors and security staff, in a non- mental health settings, who are working with patients with mental health problems.
14. Demonstrate clinical excellence and high standards of clinical and professional practice to other staff.
15. Demonstrate sound understanding of the legal and ethical issues in caring for the mentally ill. In particular, demonstrating sound understanding of the Mental Health Act (1983) and the Amended MHA Bill, (2007), and its use in a non-mental health setting.
16. Report serious and untoward incidents within the department in accordance with the Trusts policies and Post holder will co-ordinate shifts on a regular basis.
