The Senior Practitioner Mental Health Lead will be responsible for the on-going day to day management and development of the mental health practitioner roles across Wolverhampton Primary Care Networks. This is a new role designated under the Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme for Primary Care (ARRS).

This is an exciting role for someone who is proactive and passionate about innovation and providing a high-quality holistic approach to the care of people who have been identified as in need of mental health support in a primary care setting. Main duties of the job

To take a leading role in the day to day delivery of a high quality Primary Care Mental Health service, managing resources and conflicting priorities. To review patients presenting with mental health issues, consider a range of options regarding treatment interventions providing them with highly specialised advice concerning care when appropriate and liaising with GPs and MH teams. Within this role you will also line manage an identified team of mental health practitioners in the locality. When required work jointly with other practice and PCN staff, mental health, social care and voluntary sector services to meet patients’ needs effectively Provide training, education, mentoring and supervision of Band 6 Primary Care Mental Health Practitioners within the PCN  Induction and supervision of new members of the team Management of staff including caseload management, PDC’s, supervision, leave and sickness monitoring and recruitment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

As a Senior Primary Care Mental Health practitioner, the post holder will work as part of a dynamic team in delivering an effective service supporting Primary Care Networks (PCN’s) in Wolverhampton.

The primary focus of the post holder will be to support high quality service delivery of the Primary Care Mental Health Service across a range of practices within their designated PCN and lead on the co-ordination of the PCN’s SMI registers. The post holder will be required to engage a range of key partners and stakeholders and lead on joint working across health and social care. In particular, they will need to work closely with colleagues within Black Country healthcare Mental Health Services, the PCN’s, other provider organisations, local authority/Office of Public Health, and the voluntary and community sector. They will also work alongside the Primary Care Networks to support them in meeting their priorities around prevention, reducing health inequalities and population health management.
