Role purpose

The Chief Risk and Compliance Officer (CRCO) is responsible for directing the effective identification, assessment, management, monitoring and mitigation of risk across all current and potential future risk types across Channel Islands and Isle of Man as an entity. 

In addition to this the role holder is also responsible as the WPB Chief Risk Office for Europe, mainitaing accountability and oversight of all WPB regions. 

The role holder will act in a regulated capacity, and be accountable to the regulator for the different entities across CIIOM as a Registered Officer with the regulators. They will act as the key liason point for all three regulators across risk disciplinces and compliance

Accountabilities for Business, Customers and Stakeholders

Protecting the Channel Islands as an entity and WPB regional business through appropriate risk management discipline; ensuring risks are captured, understood and clearly communicated to key internal and external stakeholders as required Oversight of the MLRO function to ensure appropriate financial crime risk identification, management and mitigation. Enable the business through supporting sustainable growth aspirations and the achievement of strategic goals, acting as the single point of contact on all risk and compliance issues Manage key relationships with internal and external stakeholders, developing and maintaining strong working relationships with:
− Internal: CIIOM Risk & Compliance Function, Global WPB CRO, Regional CCO and CRO, Finance Function, Internal Audit Function, local CEO, local COOs and relevant Boards 
− External: Island Regulators, industry bodies, auditors, governments and their agencies and customers. Chair and provide independent input and challenge to the CIIOM RMM to define the country’s Risk Strategy, Risk Appetite (ensuring alignment with Group Risk Appetite where necessary) and support management of key exposures Be responsible for second line governance of credit risk, operational resilience risk, regulatory compliance and financial crime risk exposures, providing analysis, reporting and governance that is independent of the first line of defence Provide advice in order to ensure clear understanding of compliance risk exposure with respect to clients, transactions and products Oversee implementation of strategic risk and compliance related projects and the overall Risk transformation agenda in country Build a positive risk and compliance culture through communication and education on risk management and effective role modelling of risk capabilities and corporate values

Leadership & Teamwork

Member of the Channel Islands and Isle of Man ExCo and key influencer in driving forward and inputting to the country strategy Leading the local risk and compliance function to identify, assess, monitor and make timely and measured judgments on all current and potential future risks faced by HSBC. Providing assurance that line management across the country fully considers and consistently manages risk. Requirements

Functional Knowledge

Significant experience in more than one technical risk discipline To have held a leadership position, ideally within a wealth and personal banking environment Experience of building, developing and leading a sizeable team Experience of managing within a complex matrix environment Experience working in a regulated environment Experience as a regulator or significant experience of liaising with regulator(s) Experience working across different countries and cultures Knowledge of the Group’s Risk Governance, Risk Management Framework and Financial & Non-Financial Risk Policies and Issues
