Job Purpose

As a Senior Journalist on Radio Wales News, you’ll be responsible for producing our breakfast and drive programmes. At the heart of the department, you’ll need to be ready to take charge of putting together and outputting live programmes – with all the editorial, legal and creative considerations that involves. Getting the best out of the team is crucial, whether that’s journalists, presenters, reporters or studio staff. That’s all needed to increase the audience of our programmes, and get the biggest possible impact for our journalism.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

You will be responsible for: Planning Radio Wales Breakfast and Radio Wales Drive, including regular weekend working Outputting the live programmes, including regular early starts and late finishes Overseeing the work of the journalists Editorial and legal considerations, and resolving problems independently Possible line management of a small number of people

Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience

To be a success in this job, you’ll need to demonstrate: Substantial relevant journalism experience or live radio production The ability to successfully run small teams, getting the best out of colleagues, including those more senior such as presenters and correspondents Confident application of BBC editorial guidelines and media law A willingness to develop productive relationships with contributors, the rest of the Wales newsroom, other parts of the BBC and external contacts An excellent knowledge of Wales, its people and its politics
