Job summary

We are looking to recruit an experienced ClinicalPsychologist to join the clinical and professional leadership structure within Adult Learningdisabilities and Autism Services. . Working alongside other operational and clinical leaders,the post holder will contribute to the successful delivery of high quality,safe, responsive and effective clinical care.

The successful candidate must have substantial experience ofworking within adult learning disabilities and be able to provide professionaladvice and support for the effective contribution of psychology within theservice.

As a clinical and professional lead, the post holder must be able toevidence the ability to work collaboratively with others to embed psychologicalknowledge and practice across the service. The post holder will ensureappropriate supervision and professional support for psychologists working inthe Autism Services, provide consultant level oversight in pathway development andconsultation, support and advice on complex cases.

The post will sit within a psychological professionsleadership structure and will support the Directorate Lead for Psychology andthe Psychological Professions in delivering local plans in line with thenational vision for psychology. This post is a full time post though part-time will beconsidered.

In addition to the leadership roles and responsibilities,the post holder will provide a consultant level clinical service.

Main duties of the job

To ensure the systemic provision of a high-quality specialist clinical psychology service. To work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for the systemic governance of psychological practice To ensure that systems are in place and working effectively for the clinical and professional supervision and support of other psychologists and other mental health professionals within the service, including delegated systems for effective recruitment, professional appraisal, and the identification of CPD needs across the service in consultation with the Directorate Lead for the Psychological Professions. As a major requirement of the job to carry out audit, policy and service development and research activities and/or programmes. To implement policy and service development changes within the area served by the Team. Supervise other Psychologists, associates, trainees and assistants To provide a direct specialist clinical service which can include community and Inpatient services associated with this service. To provide a specialist lead within the service; providing professional advice and support to management for the effective contribution of psychology within LDA. To offer psychology staff within the service, leadership, professional supervision, advice and support including the effective operation of clinical supervision structures and continued professional development.

Experience

Essential

Substantial experience of working as a qualified clinical psychologist within Learning disabilities and autism services. Substantial post qualification experience of working with people with a moderate-severe learning disability and autism with co-morbid mental health difficulties, including substantial experience of risk management. Experience of exercising full clinical responsibility for the clients psychological care and treatment within the context of an MDT treatment plan.

Desirable

Experience of multi- professional leadership of teams or services within designated speciality.

Essential

Doctoral level knowledge of clinical psychology including highly developed knowledge of lifespan developmental psychology, models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, and two or more distinct psychological therapies. Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration. A high level ability to communicate effectively at both a written and oral level complex, highly technical and clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and a wide range of lay and professional persons within and outside the NHS. Skills in providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups. Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of clinical psychology. Knowledge of legislation and its complications for both clinical practice and professional management in relation to the client group and mental health.

Qualifications

Essential

Post-graduate doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology or it's equivalent, as accredited by the BPS, including specifically models of Psychopathology, Clinical Psychometrics and Neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology with evidence of specific experience of Learning Disability and Autism. Post-doctoral training in one or more additional specialised areas of psychological practice relevant to the post and/or as specified in the job advert. Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Clinical Psychologist or equivalent. Training and experience in supervision of qualified staff
