We are excitedto offer a Band 7 Clinical Psychologist in Neuropsychology role to workinto the Leicestershire Neuropsychology Outpatient service. This post would beexpected to be part of the preceptorship pathway with progression to Band 8a whenpreceptorship criteria have been met.

This roleis primarily within the outpatient services and there may be opportunities for workingacross other parts of the neuropsychology pathway.

Main duties of the job

We arelooking to recruit a psychologist with experience of neuropsychologicalassessment, formulation and rehabilitation for patients with highly complex cognitive,emotional and behavioural difficulties in the context of a neurologicalcondition.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with individuals across thelifespan to support people with acquired as well as progressive conditions.This role will also include developing and delivering group work as well asproject work. We are keen to think and develop innovative ways of workingincluding use of technology.

The post sits within the Leicester Neuropsychology departmentwhich is an active, innovative and enthusiastic group includingneuropsychologists and clinical psychologists working within variousspecialties including inpatients, outpatients and community.

The successful applicant will join asupportive department with regular supervision and opportunities for continuingprofessional development and support for those who wish to pursue careers inneuropsychology including support for funding for postgraduate study. Researchand evaluation activity is actively promoted within the service and there willbe opportunities to develop these areas in line with the applicants specialinterests and service objectives. We also have close links with the LeicesterDClinPsy course and opportunities for being involved in teaching and training.

Able to work independently in the context of line-management, consultation and supervision Ability to communicate with patients effectively and empathically. Able to communicate to referrers and other professional staff effectively. Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials suitable for presentations within public, professional and academic settings. Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate, to support and maintain clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive material and challenging behaviour.

Desirable

Able to cope with less than optimum work settings including other institutions and domiciliary settings.

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

Skills in the use of complex methods of psychological assessment, intervention and management of risk, frequently requiring sustained and intense concentration Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients, their families, carers and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS. Experience of providing consultation to other staff groups outside clinical psychology. Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology. Evidence of ability to publish the output of scholarly investigations in peer reviewed journals. Familiarity with the principles of child protection procedures and legislation in relation to the client group and mental health.

Desirable

Knowledge of the theory and practice of specialised psychological therapies in difficult to treat groups. Awareness of cultural and other diversity issues.

Qualifications

Essential

Honours degree in Psychology or with Psychology as the main subject. Eligibility for Graduate Membership of the British Psychology Society Doctorate in Clinical Psychology or UK HCPC approved and recognised equivalent qualification in Clinical Psychology. Registered as a Clinical Psychologist with the UK Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)

Experience of highly specialist risk, psychological assessment and treatment of clients with neurological conditions. Experience to maintain a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical aggression.
