We are seeking a dynamic and forward-thinking Continuous Improvement Manager to lead and drive our efforts in enhancing operational efficiency and effectiveness. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of continuous improvement methodologies, with a strong emphasis on light touch approaches (such as Lean, Agile, and Kaizen). Experience in higher education is essential, as the role will involve working closely with academic and administrative departments to foster a culture of continuous improvement across the organisation.
The Continuous Improvement Manager will be responsible for leading and managing the continuous improvement (CI) function within the organisation and will play a significant role within the wider Business Improvement Unit (BIU). This includes managing a small team of Business Analysts, developing, and implementing CI plans, programs, and initiatives in line with the company strategy and goals.
The ideal candidate will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify areas of improvement, streamline processes, systems and enhance efficiency across departments.
Main Responsibilities
- Design and execute continuous improvement initiatives across the organisation, focusing on both academic and administrative processes.
- Utilise light touch methodologies such as Lean, Agile, or Kaizen to drive efficiency, reduce waste, and improve service delivery.
- Tailor continuous improvement tools and approaches to fit the unique needs of a higher education environment.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement process improvements that enhance the student and employee experience.
- Facilitate meetings, workshops, and collaborative discussions to encourage a culture of continuous improvement.
- Support the Head of BIU to promote a mindset of ongoing improvement and innovation across the institution.
- Monitor and report on the success and outcomes of improvement initiatives.
- Regularly assess the impact of continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback to stakeholders.
- Create and maintain documentation of all continuous improvement activities, including progress reports and case studies.
- Advocate for and implement best practices in continuous improvement within the higher education context.
- Mentor and support staff in developing their own continuous improvement skills and knowledge.
- Promote a positive and collaborative environment that encourages creativity and innovation.
- Apply project management methodologies to ensure structured and effective implementation of improvement initiatives.
- Communicate project status, challenges, and successes to all relevant stakeholders.
- Day to day management of operational performance across the team. Assigning and managing work effectively, utilising individuals’ appropriate strengths and conducting regular 121s with team members.
- To update the Head of BIU on the team’s performance, regarding project and initiative statues. Combined with any foreseen challenges, trends, concerns, to gain support and direction, where necessary.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards in higher education.
- To be a champion of Quality, ensuring the team maintain a quality Campus experience through the delivery of a highly student-focused continuous improvement support.
- Ensure the team apply sensitivity and discretion when dealing with confidential information and confidently refer more complex issues to specialist staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Organisational Development, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in continuous improvement, with a focus on light touch methodologies.
- Proven experience working in higher education or a similar environment.
- Strong track record of leading successful continuous improvement initiatives that have resulted in measurable gains.
- Expertise in continuous improvement methodologies (such as Lean, Agile, Kaizen, or Six Sigma).
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse groups of stakeholders.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess complex processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Experience in project management, including leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Strong analytical, data interpretation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Good understanding of Microsoft systems and excellent general IT competence.
- Ability to work to set KPIs and Service Level Agreements.
